Davis is in

From the D&C:

Industrialist Jack Davis will make a third run for Congress, he said today.

Davis said a poll he conducted among residents of the 26th District swayed his decision. He polled residents on their thoughts about jobs, the economy, trade, the war in Iraq and Davis’ name recognition.

The self-made businessman from Clarence, in Erie County, said he will spend $3 million of his own money on the race, up from the $2 million he spent in 2006.

I personally like Jack Davis. I think he has great ideas, however, he has been given the opportunity to run for this seat twice. He failed both times against a Republican who was plagued with scandal and lined to George Bush. Jack, let John Powers have it.

  3. On name recognition, did they differentiate during the polling between Jack Davis the doddering old xenophobe versus Jack Davis the Mad Magazine illustrator par excellence?

In fact, I think one of the push poll questions was, “If you knew that Jack Davis, the Mad Magazine illustrator par excellence was running for NY-26, would you vote for him?”

And I think “Jack Davis: Doddering Old Xenophobe” is the second best campaign slogan I’ve heard this cycle. The first being “McCain: More Wars, Less Jobs”. :-)

BTW, congrats for running for Erie County Leg last year. Sorry about your loss, I was rooting for you. Any thoughts about running for something else?

Jack Davis has proven that he can’t win in this district. If he really wanted to do something to forward his issues and help the Democratic party, he’d forget his ego-trip of a run, put a couple million dollars into a PAC and help candidates across the country get elected.

    Anna is right.

Jack was the guy the last two cycles because, well, he was the only game in town. He was the anti-Reynolds candidate more than the pro NY-26th candidate. That said -

There are now options Jon Powers, Alice Krystan, and Jack Davis. The question here is who is a more well rounded candidate that can best represent the NY-26th constituents.

This candidate needs command of the issues and the ability to connect to the voters.

Last two cycles - Davis didn’t seem to connect and was a one issue candidate. The NY-26th can do better this cycle.
