Sex type thing
The D&C is “weary” over the latest revelations about Governor Paterson’s sex life. I’m weary over people being weary over other people’s personal lives. Not once have I gone into the voting booth thinking “I hope this guy (or gal) is 100% perfect.”
We don’t elect perfection, we elect human beings, and as such, human beings have personal challenges and personal failings. So quick was the media to exalt Governor Paterson to this image of perfection in the aftermath of the Spitzer scandal that they set up an impossible pedestal for anyone to scale and inhabit for very long. To quote Toby Maguire from the movie “Wonder Boys”: “When we fall, we fall hard.”
But what voters should be concerned about are a politician’s professional failings. From what we know now, the Paterson revelations are quite different than the Spitzer illegalities. So, perhaps all the clucking from the soap box should cease before we cannot discern the news that matters from the pap of the chatters.
Does this mean we want Casanova elected? No, but given how high our divorce rate is in this country, I think there are quite a few hypocrites throwing the first stones at this issue.

When in Rome…perhaps it’s time to do an “org” (I use that term carefully) chart on who has been married to whom and who has been with whom in the county politics.
Once we get through that, we can move up to the state level.
As long as it’s just sex, no problem.
But if it’s proven that Paterson used taxpayer funds to arrange sex (to pay for rooms, or gave unexplained taxpayer money to lady friends, etc.), or even illegal use of campaign contributions for anything like that… then it could be a serious issue.
You mean like taking one of his mistresses with him to a conference and having the state pick up the tab? (Oh wait, he did that.)
whtwtrdood - The Albany Times Union seems to be backing away tonight from its first report of the trip to South Carolina. But in general, yes, if a use of taxpayer funds like that is proven it won’t be a private matter. Whether or not it’d be impeachable would depend on the details, but if anything remotely like that comes to light he’ll be deeply weakened and an immediate lame duck. In the long run he’s not the candidate in 2010 anyhow but a money scandal like that would remove all doubt.
Jusst a Republican “Stoney” way of trying to get Bruno to be Governor. Won’t work and they’ll be lucky if he can stay in as Senator. Once the FBI gets done with him, we’ll know all of his dirty little secrets too…and I’m SURE there are MANY.
Then who would you like to toss into the wood pile?
Oooh oooh! What about Alesi? He’s a trespasser!
