James Dobson Hearts Greece - yes, that James Dobson
I saw over at the D&C that the Alliance Defense Fund is defending the Town of Greece. You know, the lawsuit filed by Americans United for Separation of Church and State against the Town of Greece? I discussed it here.
Well guess what? Greece has their hand out and the Alliance Defense Fund is defending the Town of Greece. Who is the ADF? Well - have fun reading though all the coded words,, but sounds like their job is to bring Jesus, or their interpretation of Jesus into your life.
The Alliance Defense Fund is built for service; we serve not only the Body of Christ, but also our allies in a way that no other organization does.
As our name indicates, ADF is truly an alliance. We bring together like-minded legal groups and individuals, coordinate their efforts, and work with them to develop winning legal strategies.
By God’s grace, ADF’s role has resulted in more focused energy and greater effectiveness in key legal battles. Most importantly, the court victories are vital steps in our purpose, as we defend the right to hear and speak the Truth through strategy, training, funding, and litigation.
What We Believe,
The Alliance Defense Fund is a servant organization that provides the resources that will keep the door open for the spread of the Gospel through the legal defense and advocacy of religious freedom, the sanctity of human life, and traditional family values.
Yeah, birds of a feather

So the bigger question begs:
Has this organization been part of the “plan” all along?
And how valued are Christian Morals when they support those who support the crooked, greedy, self-serving, double-dipping, lying, cheating electorate that serve on that board?
Yes indeed - God help you.
If Dobson gets involved Greece will look even stupider than it does now.
IS auberger in the pocket of Christian fundamentalists and Christian nation types?
Perhaps it is time here to raise the issues of auberger’s conncetions and the town connectitns with the first bible baptist church.
I was looking at some minutes from a Henrietta Town Board meeting and it listed a prayer there as well (http://www.charityadvantage.com/townofhenrietta/TBAgendas2008/Mar%2019%202008%20TB%20Agenda_Resolutions.pdf).
Do we have any idea how many towns do this?
Once again. Prayer itself at a government function is not bad, nor is it wrong.
It is the mention of a unique deity to the exclusion of others. So blah blah blah in the name Jesus Christ our savior Amen. Is considered unacceptable (at a government function).
God Bless America or God Bless the Town of Henrietta is not because God, albeit a deity, transcends multiple religions.
nondenominational prayer may be “legal”, but I believe “bad” and “wrong” are subjective terms in this context.
What he said.
fair enough. bad and wrong - are my beliefs.
But - since all you have is an agenda and not actual words of the prayer we really don’t know what was said.
very true. and admittedly, my assumption when I read “prayer” on an agenda in a GOP town was in the Jesus context.
Have any RT readers been to another town meeting and have first hand knowledge to share???
ER
I thought it was interesting, at the last County Leg meeting, that a prayer was said and in it, the minister asked for a special blessing for Freshman Legislator, Anthony Danielle. I can’t recall for sure, but I think Jesus’s name was invoked.
So, If this is true did they do the same for Beebe? Gumina? or the other guy whose name escapes me at the moment? That would be offensive
Exactly what were the circumstances?
The circumstances were: 1)Meeting was opened with a prayer (after the pledge of allegiance) 2) The Pastor was Danielle’s pastor and nothing was said for the other Freshman Legislators.
“You’re more than just a legislator, you ARE my special guest!”
Word on the street has it that Greece, in an attempt to “rectify” themselves has asked a Wiccan group to come say some prayers.
It’s supposed to happen at an upcoming meeting. It’s unknown and uncertain if sacrifices will be offered.
I’m hoping someone forgets the props, and one of the electeds offers to volunteer
i have looked at the alliance web site they are a nasty piece of work. it would be useful to publicize just who they are and what they stand for,
I would imagine that many local republicans would be a shamed to be associated with them.
very hard right ideology.
If “congressman” Auberger had a conscience he would be ashamed too
I have looked at the Alliance web site and it is a piece of work.
I think many in the general community would want to know exactly whom Greece has chosen to defend them
I’m sure many upstate republicans would not want to be associated with the Alliance. In addition to other problems some of their directors seem to have an extreme anti-gay agenda
If he had any conscience “congressman” auberger would be ashamed too.
here’s a bit of breaking news. The d and c is reporting that Mark Camarata has testified that Assessor Charles Schwab arraigned the $2,000,000 contribution that Kodak made to the town of Greece that paid for a lot of the community center.
Greece residents have wondered about this connection for years.
“Niccolo’s lawyer, Chad D Siegel, tried during his cross-examination of Camarata to equate Greece’s demand for $2 million to bribery”
of course not just a gift.
I believe in God. But my God is infinitely superior in loving kindness, nonviolence, and acceptance than the Mean-Spirted Clown these guys purport to “worship.” They claim to be full of spiritual understanding, but they treat the world as their toilet.
I’m tolerant, and if people like Dobson/(Auberger?)/Jerry Falwell and their ilk want to worship “God the Schoolyard Bully” due to their extremely limited fund of knowledge about reality and their complete lack of authentic spirituality, that’s ok.
Problem I have have is when they try to push it at me from a building that I paid for with my God-damn taxes. I don’t pay taxes to listen to those punks sermonize. I’m not gonna “leave the room” while they spew their venom. Get thee to Church and get the Hell out of Town Hall.
really? we must have the same god. my god tells me it is HIS duty to judge, not my duty (or ‘right’ to some of these self righteous jerks). anyway, cheers to you robert for a great post!
Brillliant! I couldn’t agree more. Please blog more! Your humor’s one of the few things I can look forward to in the county where Up is now Down, Left is Right, Love is Hate, and Republicans are Protectors of the Public! Keep fighting the good fight!
