Good MPN piece on Kuhl mailers

Regular readers of this blog are aware that we are not fans of the glossy mailers that our elected officials continually sent to us. The Messenger-Post has a piece on Kuhl’s latest mailer:

Unless you’ve been conducting a census on polar bears north of the Arctic Circle, you’ve no doubt heard of the federal government’s economic-stimulus package. Beginning in May, some individuals will receive a check of up to $600 and married couples will get up to $1,200. (Add up to $300 more for each child.)

[....]

Kuhl sent out a taxpayer-funded mailer and questionnaire to residents in the 29th Congressional District listing some basic information about your check, but really just making sure that you know that he knows the economy is important to you. Forget the fact that the Internal Revenue Service also recently sent out much the same information about the stimulus package. Kuhl, who is facing a tough re-election battle this November, was exercising his so-called franking privilege, which gives representatives the right to send mail at taxpayer expense.
The problem is such material is too often thinly disguised campaign blather. Such wasteful spending in Washington is one reason why the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 is even necessary. Out-of-control government spending has helped put us in a sticky fiscal mess.

It’s a good piece: witty and with the punch that is nearly always lacking from the Democrat and Chronicle’s editorials.

damn that liberal media questioning kuhl’s ‘good’ name and motivations! he is working his darndest to help out the good ol’ folks back home in the 29th and the mpn dares print this? for shame!

on another note, can we send kuhl to catalog polar bears? that would be a fact finding mission i’d be happy to see him go on.
