Broken: State Senator Alesi’s Leg…While Trespassing
Anyone catch the article in Friday’s D&C about Alesi breaking his leg while trespassing on a model home?
State Sen. James Alesi may be lucky he only broke his leg when he fell from a ladder in January.
(snip)
Alesi, a Perinton Republican, and another individual were eying properties for a prospective buyer, hoping to get ahead of others interested in purchasing one of the newly built homes in the Trolley Brook Estates community.Alesi used an on-site ladder to try to reach an upper floor inside the home, according to the sheriff’s report.
The senator fell from the ladder, injuring his leg.
Ouch! Apparently emergency services showed up and Alesi can begin the healing process. Whew.
The owner of the home opted not to press trespassing or any other charges, according to Monroe Sheriff’s Office spokesman John Helfer. Alesi did not have permission to enter the house, Helfer said.
Didn’t press charges? Damn straight– he’s lucky Alesi didn’t make him apologize, like the guy whose face got in the way of Dick Cheney’s gun.
The second funniest thing about this D&C article was the title:
Sen. Alesi broke leg after strolling into model home
Um, “strolling”? I mistakenly thought you “climb” up a ladder, not “stroll”. Glad the D&C news editors came to Alesi’s rescue and set me straight on my poor command of the English language.
Oh, and the funniest part? The comments. In a surprise move, the majority of the comments expressed disgust with Alesi’s being “above the law”. How refreshing, given the parade of right-wing nuttery that you see in D&C comments. For example:
If I were the developer that was building the model home, I wouldn’t have pressed charges against a sitting Republican Senator either- it would be committing business suicide in southeast Monroe County. It still says something about his judgment that he would take such stupid risks for this “prospective buyer”. This is something a teenager would pull.
I’ve copied some more choice comments for y’all below the fold. Or you can go to the article and see them in all their glory. Oh, and you can “recommend” it too, with just a simple click. Worth doing.
More fun comments:
Locks on doors only keep honest people honest. When I was a kid I took an unauthorized short cut across someones yard and stepped on a nail. I was lucky in that the my parents figured that a hole in my foot and the shots were a substitute for them slapping the snot out of me. Today I probably could have sued the guy for getting hurt when I was where I shouldn’t be. The big difference is that then we had values and responsibility. An open door was never considered an open invitation.

If any of us were caught on private property and inside a house (even though its not finished yet) without permission, don’t you think we be in trouble with the law? I sure do. The owner most likely didn’t press charges because he/she is aware of the problem Senator Alesi could cause.

“…this isn’t going to cost the taxpayers anything…” Right. Like we aren’t picking up his gold-plated health care costs? I agree with the other posters…the only way to make this right is to name some taxpayer-funded project after him, like the Michael Nozzolio Park or whatever in Seneca Falls. How about the James Alesi Park in Henrietta? There could be a playground with bunch of ladders…..

WOW - if this is not someone being above the LAW I don’t know what is. He should have been made to go to court just like the rest of us would have had to do and face the piper. A six month ACD and if he does it again he would be brought up on this charge as well. Just because a door is open does not mean you have the legal right to go in.
yup. more:
The only reason Alesi wasn’t charged is because he is Alesi. If it was you or I, we would have been charged with trespassing. Falling from a ladder and breaking his leg is his punishement. He, of all people, should know better.
And what’s up with this? Is there more to the story?
As one of his constituents what bothers me most is that he felt a need to make up a story about falling at home. That reflects more on his character than trespassing in a home under construction.
Funny:
Yea..thats how all builders show there homes, make you climb a ladder!! If I was caught, I’d be charged with trespassing.
Funniest:
he must have thought there was a pile of money inside
Where have these commenters been all my life??? More of this, please.

Yesterday this story was the top line on the Communities > Fairport page. Today, you can’t find a link to this story at all from elsewhere in the D&C website (at least I can’t find it). You need to have the direct link as above.
Anyone familiar with these “Community” pages will know that articles usually stay on them for days, just moving lower in the list.
The search function of the D&C site doesn’t find the article either.
Hopefully this is just a problem with the new D&C website.
My money says he was up on the ladder trying to put his name on the building in exchange for being able to live in it upon completion.
Well at least we have his new campaign slogan: “Break A Leg!”
The only thing that would be funnier is if the total height of the ladder were 6 feet. I think most people are imagine him on some big tall ladder. Was probably a step ladder, the doof.
just out of curiosity is john helfer any relation to jerry helfer from the greece tb?
What is funnier is the Irish flag he flew from his crutch hanging out the window the car during the parade.
[...] Nachbar’s job will be tougher– no doubt. He’s got to overcome a GOP registration advantage, lower name ID and targeted money spent by Alesi over the last few years. But here’s something to jump start the effort, that should have Alesi sweating more than if he were caught by the cops breaking & entering. [...]
