The fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq
As many of you may know, tomorrow is the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. There’s a lot going on, so this will be a brief summary that attempts to tie together local strands with more national and global strands. We will be revisiting a lot of this in detail later:
(1) Maffei, Massa, and Powers will be holding a joint press conference:
On Wednesday, March 19th 2008 at 9:00 am, retired Navy Commander Eric Massa will join fellow Congressional Candidates Dan Maffei (NY-25) and Iraq Veteran Jon Powers (NY-26) for a press conference at the Rochester Veterans Outreach Center at 459 South Ave, Rochester, NY 14620. During this press conference, all three candidates will observe the 5th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. Additionally they will be calling on their opponents and the White House to provide more targeted funding for our Veterans.
(2) Massa has joined a group of Democratic candidates who are unveiling a plan to redeploy out of Iraq. You can read about the plan here. (h/t F29th)
(3) There have been a series of articles in various papers and magazines about the war and what went wrong. Here’s nine of them from the New York Times. I’m not crazy about the list of people who were asked to write but it’s still worth looking at. I’d also be remiss if I didn’t link to blogger John Cole’s pithy — and mostly unreprintable on a family blog like this one — take on them.
