Whoa. Is Jack Davis’ Campaign Toast?
Holy crap. Jon Powers, Iraq war vet and Dem candidate who’s been busting his butt campaigning over in NY-26 since last summer, just got his 5th (out of 7) county endorsement. Guess who’s ticked off?
Davis, the founder and president of Newstead’s I Squared R Element Co., is expected to announce his third challenge to Reynolds soon. He said he will ask all of the counties that have endorsed Powers to reconsider.
“These are people who fall for a pretty face and a war record,” Davis said. “Four or five of those counties have new chairmen and don’t know what they’re talking about.”
He called Powers a “good salesman” but said he brings to the table extensive business experience, a stand against most free trade agreements and illegal immigration, as well as $2 million of his own money pledged to the campaign.
“All these people just want the job,” he said. “I don’t need a job. I already have a job.”
I guess this is similar to the Clinton campaign tactic of dissing states she didn’t win, but dag nabit, deputy dawg. You want to win over local Dems, since they are all necessary to win.
He calls Powers a “good salesman”, which I actually agree with since, like a good salesman, he’s got hustle. And, gee, anyone else think it’s a good idea to have someone be able to sell the needs of upstate to fellow congresscritters? Sounds like a plus to me.
I guess Davis’ face must be pretty upset, what with his nose being cut off like that.  Sorry, Jack. You’re going to need more than getting into the race a year late, and waving around stacks of money, to cinch the nomination.
Yeesh.

Get out of the way Davis - it’s POWERS - “All The Way To Washington”
No amount of money can top Powers - he’s just got “it”
All the way to Washington Jon! http://www.powersforcongress.com
Proud Supporter - Proud Constituent - Just Damned Proud - and not afraid to say and PROVE it!
And for the record Davis:
I love that pretty face and that war record. Put what you got on the table. You just don’t even come close to stacking up!
You have a problem with Veterans Jack?
I clicked through to the newspaper story, and I’m amazed to see that Jon Powers will be meeting with the Erie County Dem. Exec. Committee tomorrow morning (along with the other candidates), as it is probably the most important event of Jon’s campaign. Why am I amazed? Because when he’s done, he’s going to hightail it over to Livingston County to canvass door-to-door with the Democratic candidates in Tuesday’s Village election. This guy wants it and is willing to work for it without stop. Can any of you imagine Jack Davis walking door-to-door on his OWN behalf, much less that of way-down-ticket candidates? Jon understands that getting involved in every level of our process is important. Talk about leading by example!
I remember the first time I heard Davis speak when he last ran. It was at the Dutch Milll in Greece. It was the occasion of his announcement in Monroe County that he was running.
All I could think was, “What makes this guy a democrat?” With the exception of being pro-labor he was a Republican in disguise.
Then I heard he was a life-long republican who had swithched affiliations to run.
Is that correct?
Yes, he switched before his run in 2004. He ha attended a big bucks Cheney event and was infuriated when Cheney ignored the anti-trade rant Davis had prepared for him.
Let’s not be so hard on Jack. He should know what a “good salesman” is. He just needs to look at what he did during his last two campaigns and imagine the opposite.
