Blue about NY-25

In the wake of yesterday’s crushing loss in Illinois’s 14th district, things are looking down for Republicans in NY-25:

Republicans are also privately pessimistic about retaining Democratic-trending suburban seats held by Reps. Tom Davis (Va.) and Jim Walsh (N.Y.), and they currenty lack a nominee for the open seat of retiring Rep. Jerry Weller (Ill.).

It’s interesting that the Post-Standard saw fit to reprint Republican public spin about the district:

But by Friday, Republicans in Washington seemed boosted by Syracuse Mayor Matt Driscoll’s announcement that he will not challenge the only announced Democratic candidate for the seat, Dan Maffei, for their party’s nomination.

This is lazy reporting at its very, very worst. Dan Maffei has over 400K cash on hand. The Republicans have failed to find a top tier candidate run in the district. Why would the Post-Standard run what is clearly Republican spin here?

Rotten flagged the Post-Standard piece.  I think the next question in our conversation with Evan Dawson of WHAM 13 should be: why does the mainstream media continue to run these kinds of stories? And why should anyone pay attention to them as long as they continue to do so?

I grew up in Syracuse. There is a reason that the nickname for the local paper is the Sub-Standard.
