BREAKING…Kuhl’s running again

Rumors of Randy’s retirement were greatly exaggerated, it seems (from Channel 13):

At least four Republican sources now tell me that Congressman Randy Kuhl (R-29th) is going to announce Friday that he will seek re-election. This comes as rumors swirl that the second term Congressman from the Southern Tier will retire at the end of his current term.

This means that Kuhl will once again square off against Democrat Eric Massa whom he narrowly defeated in November 2006.

Update:  There’s  more detail in the Channel 13 piece that I missed:

Over the last two weeks I’ve personally spoken to more than a half-dozen Republican sources about Congressman Kuhl’s political future, and who the party might consider if Kuhl were to retire.

The names of potential candidates I heard more than once:
State Senator George Winner of Elmira.
2004 29th District Congressional Candidate Mark Assini of Gates.
Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks. (who would have to move into the district)
Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli.
Rochester area attorney and conservative talk show host Bill Nojay.

[.....]

Now that my sources tell me these rumors of Kuhl retiring can be put to bed, seemingly one question remains.  Will there be a GOP Primary?

Great reporting here from Sean Carroll of Channel 13.

Put a diaper on him then. From the bottom of my leotards - THANK YOU RANDY! We Progressives couldn’t have won without YOU!

This is gonna be a great year!

Absent a scandal or significant illness - Did anyone really think this wasn’t

Pretty much, but after I told everyone that about Walsh for three months, I wasn’t so sure.

Another recent rumor flying around those supposedly “in the know” - Jack Doyle enters the race for the 29th, thinking he can win the Monroe County parts of the district, and then, well, he is the GOP in the rest of a GOP district. Who would be more fun to beat, Jack or Randy?

Jack Doyle - the builder of the soccer field downtown. The one that is now broke and under investigation.

Yeah, that Jack Doyle…

His timing would be impeccable. Maybe he could answer a few questions while he’s at the microphone…

the Rhinos issues is due to Steve Donner’s incompatence. if there is any question, refer back to the Amerks issues. we may be losing both teams. and as a result the possibility of the Rattlers and K-Hawks.
