If a cat has nine lives..
New York Magazine has a terrific long profile of Republican Senate Leader Joe Bruno. One frustrating thing about NYS politics is that Joe Bruno and Shelly Silver have so much power, yet the public knows next-to-nothing about them. This quote sums up the gist of the article:
Says one Democratic operative: “If a cat has nine lives, Joe’s had 30. Eventually, it’s up.â€
The thinking in Albany right now is that between the FBI investigation and the loss of race in NYSD-48, Bruno’s political days are numbered. The article is well-worth reading, long on details and background, and quite kind in its personal assessment of Bruno. It’s interesting, then, that Bruno had such a negative reaction to the piece:
The Senate majority leader, Joseph L. Bruno, concedes in an interview in the current issue of New York magazine that he was paid by a Connecticut investment firm to encourage trustees of union pension funds in New York to do business with the company.
But the senator’s spokesman denounced the story on Sunday, saying the magazine had violated the terms of the interview.
We will be writing a lot more about Joe Bruno and the New York State Senate over the next few days. The big question – touched on here — is whether or not the Democrats will get a Republican State Senator to switch parties (which would give the Dems a majority) before the November election.

Meow! Great post!
p.s. I don’t want no damned flippers!
But the senator’s spokesman denounced the story on Sunday, saying the magazine had violated the terms of the interview.
Does this mean Bruno will need an attorney to go with him for all future interviews?
[...] We take out the Bruno/Robach’s talking points over who actually looks out for upstate. Speaking of Bruno, how many lives does the guy who will perform the duties of Lieutenant Governor actually have anyway? [...]
