Now that the NY state senate, where all good legislation goes to die, is one seat away from Joe Bruno, good legislation blocker extraordinaire, being out of power, it’s all hands on deck to get a good clean elections bill passed in the Assembly.

Clean Elections have been lauded by both GOP and Dem candidates alike. Who doesn’t like ‘em? Party power brokers, because it democratizes access to elected office, instead of needing the blessing of party insiders. Corporations and special interests don’t like them, because it keeps them from wielding power over elected officials trying to do the right thing.

What needs to happen next? Contact your assemblycritters to tell them you support clean elections. Click here to do just that. Want to do more? Call MetroJustice at 585-325-2560 to volunteer to help call constituents. It’s easy– you just connect the folks you’re calling to their Assemblycritter’s answering machine, and leave a message saying who you are and that you support clean elections. Folks are very willing to do a simple thing like that when you call them.

Phonebanking is happening at the MetroJustice HQ tonight and Thursday night, from 6:30-8:30 PM.

Want to do even MORE, now that I’ve got you all fired up? (And you should be fired up, Clean Elections is a game-changer. Good candidates would all of a sudden not have to be rich or well-connected. Or sell their soul. What a concept!)

They’re joining up with CitizenAction and other good government groups across the state to help the Assembly make up its mind to support Clean Elections.
