Albany Project on latest Kuhl retirement rumors

I’ve heard this one too. I tend to think someone from the Southern Tier would be a better choice for the Republicans if Randy doesn’t run. Anyway, here’s what the Albany Project is saying:

Sources tell me the rumors going around say that the NRCC is trying to convince Kuhl not to run. The NRCC thinks that Kuhl will lose in November and would prefer to run someone else.

That someone else just might be Maggie Brooks. Maggie recently moved into the 29th congressional district and would be a favorite of the NRCC’s to run for that seat. Whether she will or not remains to be seen.

I haven’t had time to think any of this through, so consider this a link, not an indication that I think this is likely.

So first she is a consideration for the 25th (Walsh) and during her declination and the discussion that followed no one mentioned that she moved? Do we actually know where Maggie lives?

let’s not forget 2010 or beyond could be a possibility. I don’t see this happening this year.

Agreed. While these are only rumors, I think the NRCC wants Maggie because of name recognition. Plus, these rumors mirror those in the 26th. The Republicans blame the Democrats, but I actually think it’s the Republicans starting these rumors to see how possible alternative candidates are received.

The rumors about Brooks running in NY-25 were indeed floated by Republicans. I don’t know what to make of this one.

One thing about this rumor is that either (a) being floated for some reason (to weaken Kuhl or test out a Maggie candidacy) or (b) it’s true. Either way, it’s interesting.

he’s been getting almost $7k a month from Friends of Maggie Brooks.

since 2006 he’s received about $200k in consulting fees from her.

the BOE filing information for 2007 listed her at 387 SPINNAKER LN WEBSTER, NY, 14580.

I checked the D&C for a real estate transaction for that address and came up empty. I also struck out when checking under her name and he husband - Robert Wiesner.
