Tomorrow there will be a protest of Maggie Brooks’ cynical ploy to demonize gay Americans — and waster taxpayer’s money — for her own political gain by fighting the court ruling that the county must recognize out-of-state same sex marriages and civil unions. Here’s the details:

You can disagree strongly with her maneuver, and consider it a cynical political move, but she is not trying “to demonize gay Americans.” That’s an inaccurate description. Protest, by all means, but don’t give it a false label.

I disagree, Lee. If there was any chance of her winning this in court, or if there was any chance she had any deep-seated feelings about the “sanctity of marriage”, I wouldn’t say it. But she has no chance and her own life suggests that she doesn’t have such deep-seated feelings.

Sorry, I call them like I see them. Save that “the truth is in the middle” stuff for the D&C.

THANK YOU EX - You actually GET IT!

Thank you. And just to be clear with Lee, I don’t think Lee’s opposition to gay marriage makes him a demonizer of gays. I understand (though I don’t agree with) his position on it.

It’s one thing to oppose something personally, it’s quite another to waste money on a bogus lawsuit over it.

My comments regarding Maggie and this issue apply to her, not to everyone who might disagree with me about this issue.

‘protecting taxpayers’ is a way to demonize the gay community. it is using government funds to promote discrimination. plain and simple. and i hope she doesn’t get away with it on any level. you wouldn’t fight a court ruling that allows irish people to get benefits through marriage. so what is the difference here?

I have thought for quite some time that when politicos make bad decisions against the consensus of the opinion of the public and the advisors that they themselves should be held responsible for any financial loss created as a result.

If they were held personally liable for their bad decisions, perhaps they would learn to think twice before wasting even more taxpayer dollars trying to defend their already proven poor choices.

Imagine how insulting this is for the initial filer who’s tax dollars are now being spent to defend Brooks’ in an action which the plaintiff already won by decision? She still has no benefits, and Brooks’ still has her pompous day in the sun.

Something really wrong with that scenario…and it doesn’t exist in the private sector, so perhaps a change of law is long overdue. It wasn’t taxpayer dollars that brought forth the lawsuit in the first place either.
