Maggie Brooks - Sex, Lies and MP3
Rochesterturning has been down this road before - a couple of times. Now listen to the tape. Poor Ms. Maggie - Have a listen to her drivel in an interview with Rachel Ward (WXXI). Rachel Ward (WXXI).
County executive Brooks says she doesn’t think the decision to appeal is a “hostile move.”
“This is not a statement about any position at all on same sex marriage, this an appeal that looks at the current state policy. And what we’re saying is, this is a ruling that flies in the face of state policy, a policy that has been embraced by the people of Monroe County and New York State.”
It is clear to me that Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks is cold. Really cold. She keeps talking about protecting employers here in Monroe County as if this law will affect those employers. Which employers is she protecting? The city of Rochester? Xerox? Kodak?, the Town of Brighton? Corning? That is a list off the top of my head, all of whom have Domestic Partner benefits.
Let’s not forget that this issue is about DOMESTIC PARTNER Benefits - True family values -
As a bonus, you can listen to Gary Pudup’s response Gary Pudup’s response to Ms Maggie. He does a great job bringing home the point that this is about family - and the law, an old, existing law.
I think listening to Maggie you will be hard pressed to come away feeling anything other than that this is about a bitter denial of services - services other NYS governmental entities offer, as well as public (probably some private employers too). Maggie hides behind the skirt of protecting taxpayers and employers. If she put as much effort into fair tax policies (COMIDA and one-shot wonders for balancing the budget) and economic growth as she has put into this, taxpayers and employers would be much better off.
Let’s not forget that this a GOP party philosophy - same philosophy that brought us the recent Public defender debacle.
Bottom line - her reasons don’t match her actions, hence the title of this post.
