I think MCDC was right on by responding to this. The worst thing our party can do is to ignore the base (us) and, with this statement, they have shown they care what we have to say. That's an important step; one that will hopefully be a harbinger of greater inclusiveness to come.

They should be applauded for this.

Wrong again on my part. Having a bad day, I guess. But my point still is, the Dem party here does very little to bring in people or generate enthusiasm among the general electorate.

Walsh is in NY-25, not 26. NY-26 is not seen as being as high a priority as NY-25. In fact, nothing else in the House is seen as being as a high a priority as NY-25. That could change -- if the Republican candidate doesn't get traction, the seat won't be contested at all, then it won't really be a "priority" for anyone.

Louis I respect your enthusiasm however you should probably keep your facts straight. If your going to be petty about the wording of a press release you should at least get the congressional district and their represenatives and possible challengers correct. Jim Walsh represents the 25th and MCDC has fully supported Dan Maffei and Tom Reynolds represents the 26th and MCDC has decided to see who emereges from the pack of qualified contenders.

Another thought - when a question is asked, why not use it as an opportunity to communicate a bigger message. Like "We are excited about the opportunities that Walsh's decision presents to the people of the 26th Congressional District. Although we understand (or Joe Morelle, Chairman of the Monroe County Democratic Committee understands) that there will be considerable interest among those seeking to challenge the (add adjective - dangerous? wrongheaded? idiotic?) agenda (or policies) set by the current administration, the MCDC has not yet determined which candidate it will be supporting. We hope that all Democratic voters in the 26th Congressional District, and Monroe County, will join us in this exciting opportunity to increase the Democratic majority in Congress, and press forward with a new agenda."

Sorry if I read into it as being a press release. But I do think it's reflective of the local party. I think the local party talks to (and frequently congratulates) itself, and doesn't bother trying to talk to the many of us who are supportive of Democratic positions. And I think that this statement, if it was released to more than just one person at a blog (and I'm guessing it was) or even if it was released with the knowledge it was going to a well read local blog, is a glimpse into its inability to communicate effectively with the rest of us.

It's not a press release! It's something they were kind enough to email me when I asked!!!

Lighten up people! They try to keep the base informed and you attack them for it.

I agree. Davis said something incorrect. They corrected it and so promptly using a progressive media source (us). Where's the failure in that?

i don't think a press release in february about a potential primary can be considered a reflection of a greater 'failure'. how many people do you think would read this? and if it was the greatest press release of all time, would anymore read this and would it turn the county from red to blue? i don't think so.

I'm with louis -"however, at which time.."? Does that make any sense the way it's written? MCDC press releases suck. Hopefully their writer's will pass fourth grade this year. Everything I've ever seen from them is totally amateur.

I have no problem with the press release, and I'm glad that MCDC made it clear. Helps us all stay focused on what's really important - ousting Reynolds :)

So - if we can judge their organizational ability based on their writing ability, we begin to understand a little more about our lame local Dem party's leadership. "Chairman Morelle"? Is that like "Chairman Mao"? And "However, at which time"? I'm still thinking about the difference between near and immediate futures. Stiff, out of touch with the way people communicate, and ineffective.

Okay, I'm being petty. But I do believe that this is a reflection of their failure to generate greater support in these red to blue times.
