Republicans in the Trojan horse
There is an assault on our democracy by local Republicans. President Bush’s bullying tactics have trickled down to Monroe County Republicans like little kids imitating the bad behavior of their parents, from the Public Defender race and class war to the attack on schools to the impending MCC coronation. It has crept up on us…
It went from “Americans should watch what they say, what they do” (Ari Fleischer’s infamous remarks post 9/11) to, essentially, we (Big Brother) will watch what you say, what you do, to we will control what you say, what you do.
Think that’s a stretch? We now have “free speech zones” (corridors of freedom, if you will) as if all of America isn’t a free speech zone. “Tyranny creeps,” according to Yale Law Professor Stephen Carter, in a terrific article in FindLaw by Edward Lazarus.
Our liberty, nationally and locally, has been attacked by strong-armed Republican tactics, like soldiers hiding in the Trojan horse waiting to attack the city.
