Let’s Help Dave “Mike” Barry Remember

Just a quick post following up in the D&C article about last night’s party line vote to appoint the new public defender.

I’m sure others will follow up and ladkiddo will continue to provide more eyewitness accounts.

Still, I was struck by this sentence in the D&C article.

Some protesters charged that a row of spectator chairs had been removed from the chamber, but that was disputed by the clerk, David M. Barry.

This seems easy enough. There has to be a picture - somewhere. heck you can even look at a blog post which details (via the D&C) saying that a row of chairs was removed.

So here is the deal

This is D&C reporter Jill Tierni’s article and that is her sentence. Government double-dipper David M Barry (Greece Town Councilman and appointed Monroe County Legislature Clerk) says it didn’t happen.

It is simple - Any pictures out there?

Send them to us via the contact form and we will post them. Heck - Hey Dave Barry - send us a picture of all the public gallery chairs intact from last night’s activities in the chamber. We would be happy to set the record straight.

I truly hope that everyone finds it as ridiculous as I do that the public was denied access to a public chamber. In fact,as witness have reported, the Public access was intentionally restricted.

I find that extremely scary.

He doesn’t use “Dave” Barry…he’s known as Mike Barry - NEVER uses the name Dave except when it’s convenient to set up an alter ego. Yup, he’s the lovely double dipping Greece Town Council Member, and child prodigy of the owner of the GOP Den of Inequity Crescent Beach Hotel.

…and a kid in training who is so wet, he’s dripping from the ears. Watch him sometime on the Westside cable broadcasts. He’s like a 3 year old in class fidgeting, half asleep…a real winner.

Probably too busy with the Sheriff’s Department at the local donut shop. Nice to know our officers who are sworn to uphold the safety of the PUBLIC are so allegient to Broomarik. That’s the LAST time I will ever donate to a Monroe County Sheriff fund in any way, shape or form again.

Now hold on.

Our officers are duty bound to follow legal orders - I suspect that the orders they followed were legal. The focus here is does not need ot be on the Sheriff’s department (unless there was some excessive force or whatever) the focus here is on the Republican Majority.

Cut it with the Donut shop comments.

I consider it excessive force to have to physically escort each and every speaker to the podium.

I consider it excessive force to have people removed for taking pictures.

I consider it ridiculous to allow myself to believe that the officers don’t know any better. Are we to allow for legal orders when the administration tells them to start shooting us?

No. This has gone too far. Granted, Broomarik used the officers to her liking, but I personally believe that to “protect and serve” means our community, not the thugs wielding excessive power.

That’s not rocket science. That’s common sense. And I’m not willing to let them off the hook so easily.

I’ll still withhold my support, and admit the donut remark was my anger. But I am truly outraged.

It seems to me there are some concrete steps we could be taking here. How about a FOIA request for documentation about that sudden change in the posted capacity of the room? That can’t have happened without SOME paperwork somewhere.

If our local media won’t do it (and let’s face it, this story has already gone down the memory hole, even at City, which really should have come out swinging today), why not us?

Don’t agonize - organize. This is where all you good folks need to start coordinating efforts to oust the Republicans from office on a local level. And find out what businesses they are associated with and boycott. Write about the individual Republicans’ roles during this fiasco - look at the videos - were any smirking, acting improperly? Call them out by name. Let the folks in the towns know what their representatives were up to. Write letters to the newspaper, including the local papers, protest so that the legislators don’t think this will be forgotten. Keep an eye on the MCC upcoming debacle. Make noise!

Any lawyers out there? Get legal papers ready to address “prior restraint” in the event they try to squelch public protest. Get legal papers ready for an injunction or some kind of lawsuit the next time they try to illegally keep people out. How about looking at the legality of keeping the public out this time? How about a lawsuit or two?

This is an amazing group of people here. Be creative. Make buttons, circulate them - with names, catchy phrases. Let those phrases become what is associated with what they did. Contact the ministers and Gantt’s office and coordinate efforts. Let’s join forces and make this an event that changes our history here. Bring the protesters from the city churches to the suburban churches and dialog. Be creative!
