Tim Donaher probably to be confirmed tonight
That is probably what will happen at the Monroe County Legislature meeting tonight because - the GOP has the votes and can’t be stopped. I’ll also mention that the County GOP doesn’t have a conscience either.
The result will likely be a GOP control of the Public Defenders office ($7.5 million dollars and 85 Jobs). Yeah, I know, all you patronage supporters out there - the Dems if they were in control they would do it too.  So, to the victor goes the spoils blah blah blah. This is beyond patronage - We are talking about real people here. Just because the cops arrest someone doesn’t mean they did anything wrong.
So with control of $7.5 million dollars and personnel decisions - the Public Defender office has the potential of simply turning into a plea bargain mill.  Someplace where cronies are stashed until the next opportunity and bide their time by plea bargaining - because actually defending the people does, indeed, take work.
Maybe that is an unfair characterization - Maybe - but that this process, this selection is being forced down the public’s throat - WHEN THERE ARE OPPORTUNITIES TO DO SOMETHING ELSE - proven opportunities to do something else -what other conclusion can one draw?
It is sickening.
