More Republican nonsense over the Public Defender

Re an is what you have left when you remove ‘public’ from the word Republican.

Oh my God.

The Republican Majority removed public gallery seats from Monroe County Legislature seats in order to limit public access. That’s what I believe this says from a short D&C write-up about the Legislature meeting tonight.

Dozens of protesters, upset with the selection process used to choose a successor to longtime Public Defender Edward Nowak, were outside the legislative chambers and not allowed inside. There usually are four rows of chairs for spectators, but one row had been removed.

unbelievable

We will have more later…

It sure seems that Rethuglicans are afraid of the public. They see public presence and protest as a threat, and not just a political threat, but an honest to goodness real physical threat that demands protection, in this case police protection. I wonder if the Rs on the County Leg are thinking of “packing” like another well-known local R. ‘Cause that other well-known local R sure got skeeved by people protesting. He took that as a physical threat as well.

I sense a pattern here…

Note the mention in Rachel’s WHAM blog that “even some members of the media weren’t allowed in.”

True, that. I understand that even the WXXI radio reporter had to listen to the first half of the meeting from the overflow room across the street.

This is disgraceful.

Hey Anthony Daniele - what happened to your promises that you weren’t going to go along with “politics as usual”?

It’ll be a cold day in hell before I eat dinner at Mario’s or Bazil again.

Sorry to reply to myself, but WTF - democracy gets trashed in Monroe County, and not one of our three alleged TV news stations can bother to lead with the story?

This is Rochester. We know it’s cold out. We can wait a few minutes to hear from Kevin Williams or Scott Hetsko. Tell me the freakin’ NEWS!

We know WHAM had Rachel Barnhart there…yet we didn’t even see her on their 11 PM news. WTF?!?!
