Endorsement Blowback - you get what you advocate - Ugly government via the Public Defender selection process

Republican misdeeds, with regards to the Public Defender selection process, have brought out, what we believe, is the best of the D&C Editorial board. So, when famed Gangsta Jihadist James Lawrence is on break from focusing on all things Gangsta, he and his board have delivered strong, powerful messages demanding an open, transparent process.

There was this editorial about Wayne Zyra, or this one demanding he stop dragging his feet, or this piece saying the selection process has Zero Credibility, or a blog post where Mr. Lawrence tries to ask Maggie questions and she ducks them, or this editorial where his page encouraged Maggie Brooks to intercede. Good editorials all -

Well - remember this? Yes, btp and I were chatting over the weekend and I was reminded of this endorsement by the D&C titled 11th Legislative District: Mike Barker unafraid to speak up. The money quote is:

One prominent leader in the district told this page that Barker has the pulse of the district, is active on a variety of committees and has been an advocate for towns and villages in regard to the F.A.I.R. plan. Barker was also characterized as someone unafraid to speak up regardless of the politics involved. More leaders should follow suit.

Who the heck is this D&C endorsed Mike Barker anyway? Well, he is the head of the Public Safety Committee - the same one who is obediently following Wayne Zyra’s heavy-handed process and leaving the public out of the Public Defender Selection process. The same committee that the D&C editorial board said is casting enough doubt on the process to lead the community to believe that the fix is in. This is the process Lawrence’s editorial Page is railing against.

What we are seeing here is blowback. Back then, there was an opportunity by the D&C editorial board to advocate for real change and instead they punted.

Yeah, we said, back then that with that endorsement the editorial board missed the boat because they didn’t reflect the change that was needed.

Is this really a surprise?  The writing was always on the signs.

Wow, that’s excellently put together, stlo7! I knew when I read the Carla Palumbo piece that I’d heard that name before, but I didn’t remember where. Good research!

It gets worse when it comes to Mike Barker. Believe it or not, he’s actually a teacher in the Fairport school district, which stands to lose about $3mil due to unFAIR. Some advocate he is. I hope all of his requests for classroom supplies are denied due to budget cutbacks.
