Radio no where/More on Wease
Channel 13 has this piece up. Wease is saying that He’ll be back (Arnold Schwarzenegger style) and wants to talk, he just can’t, quite yet. Watch the video.
“I am heartbroken. Twenty-two years of broadcasting is lost. Everything is done. I was terminated,” he said.
(snip)
Wease said while money was a big issue, it wasn’t the only factor. He said he’ll miss his morning crew and his listeners.
“I have lost my team after 22 years in radio in the morning. I will be back,” he said.
This is such a loss for Rochester. Our last local, liberal voice silenced. As Joni Mitchell would sing,
“Don’t it always seem to go, that you don’t know what you got till it’s gone?”
Entercom-you know not what you do.

I listened to Wease for over 20 years. I can still recall the day Doug Flutie called the show, the day Flutie was released by the Bills in favor of Rob Johnson. This was some of the most gripping radio I have ever heard, and only someone like Wease who was excellent at building rapport with people would have gotten such a call. This interview was so gripping that I remember staring at the radio during the interview, it was that intense.
Wease’s sidekicks seem to have put on their radio show this morning, renamed as “The Mens Room”. While these people were very talented as the side acts, I can’t see them as the main act. In addition, as you say, Rochester loses someone who fought hard for liberal causes, and I just don’t see these three sidekicks doing that (even though at least two of them probably are liberals). Add to that the dismissal of Dave Kane and you can mark me down as disgusted about the whole thing.
Thanks for that testimonial Paige. That’s what I’m talking about.
I am also a long-time listener and actually have been friends with Wease and his family for many years. This absolutely and completely infuriates me.
Yes, Wease had his rough edges but noone knows Rochester like him.
If you ask me, they held negotiations long enough to test their current idea and then dumped him as they had most likely planned the whole time.
Tried to email Entercom and they aren’t returning emails-big surprise.
Kind of an ironic analogy don’t you think.
I wonder how Stephanie Miller feels about Wease’s situation. I still remember the “Brother Wease / Sister Sleaze” days of college fondly. I can’t often listen during the day, has anyone heard her mention it?
I know she occasionally mentions her time on the Rochester airwaves.
I meant to listen to Opie and Anthony to see what Opie had to say. He used to intern with Wease and mentions him often - and fondly.
I remember having to chose each morning between Stern or Wease. I would say my time was split bout 50-50, but when Stern left, it was all Wease all the time. Now it is back to cds on my daily commute.
I work over nights, and driving home in the morning Wease and WCMF crew kept me awake with humor, and good olde discussions that the other stations fear or did not have the brain power to present. Ciao Wease.
when i was i the mariens my sister would tape wease and send it to me in okinowa i got a kick listening to some one from home.
but when they let kano go i knew this was going to be the plan let me know where to go and i will listen
As soon as we know more, we will get it up for you and everyone else who is anxious to have Wease back in their morning routine.
you got my name and email let me know and i will bring the troops
[...] We’re still waiting for Wease! [...]
[...] as Brother Wease, was let go from WCMF when the station was purchased by Intercom Rochester and negotiations broke down. The lone liberal radio talk show host in Rochester, it’s hard to see him [...]
I lived in rochester for 12 years and have to say I listened to wease just about every morning. I live in pittsburgh now and really missed listening to wease in the morning. He kicks a$$.
