Maggie not running for Walsh seat
This is no surprise (from WHAM):
Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks has opted not to run for the seat being vacated by Congressman Jim Walsh.
Her spokesman confirmed an article that appeared in today’s Syracuse Post-Standard.
The only person expressing serious interest in running as a Republican right now is former State Fair Director Peter Cappuccilli. After overseeing fried dough concessions, butter sculpture contests, and Three Dog Night concerts at the Pepsi International Food Pavilion (growing up near Syracuse, I remember all of these vividly), he’s ready to step up to the big time:
In recent days, Cappuccilli sent the Onondaga County Republican Committee a letter indicating his interest in the party’s nomination, committee Chairman John DeSpirito III said Wednesday.
Cappuccilli is the only one who has done that, DeSpirito said.
Cappuccilli said Wednesday he has not decided whether to run for Congress, but he is interested in the job and will make a decision within a week.
Walsh really screwed the party when he pulled out so late.

Phew! I was hoping this situation wouldn’t end up like Bill Murray’s “Groundhog’s Day” movie, where every day we would wake up from here to eternity with the headlines reading just the opposite!
