Fitzpatrick isn’t running

Earlier we told you that Bill Fitzpatrick, the Onondaga County DA, was the frontrunner to be the Republican nominee in NY-25 with Jim Walsh retired. So this is a bit of a shocker:

Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick announced today that he will not seek the Republican nomination for the 25th Congressional District.

Republican Congressman Jim Walsh announced in January that he will not seek re-election this year.

In a written statement, Fitzpatrick said he has been living the dream of a lifetime.

“I actually get to wake up in the morning knowing that the people in the county I love depend on me to help secure their safety and their quality of life,” Fitzpatrick said.

would he have to risk his d.a. gig to do so? or maybe the numbers just aren’t good. maybe the writing is on the wall.

Maybe he’s just a principled individual that believes one shouldn’t run for a higher political office without first giving up the one they are holding currently. Sort of like what Rick Dollinger or John Edwards did, only in reverse. He likes his current position enough to want to stay there.

So who is this a swipe at? Any particular person?

Al Gore shouldn’t have run for President because he was VP? or the first Bush wasn’t principled? Please. Careful when you paint with a big paint brush.

Because Dollinger is a Judge or was a Judge he can’t engage in Political activity as a Judge. That is why he resigned.

And I certainly wouldn’t trust an Irishman who claimed to be principled…

I don’t know for certain, but there could be a law preventing him from running while in the DA’s office. I know there is a law like this for judges, hence Dollinger’s resignation.

A less principled man would have just broken that law, though.

Just so you all know, I plan to resign from my duties as a blogger here when I announce my candidacy for president in 2012. I wouldn’t want there to be a conflict of interest. The temptation to endorse myself would be too great, and I wouldn’t want to compromise the integrity of this blog.
