Frankel’s In

Holy crap.  It’s on:

Brighton Democratic Supervisor Sandra Frankel will make a run for the state Senate.

She plans to make a formal announcement on Wednesday that she will run for the 56th District seat now held by Republican Joseph Robach of Greece.

“The 56th District deserves to be represented by someone whose values and views reflect the values of the majority of voters in the district. The incumbent has a very conservative voting record,” Frankel said.

She said that she’s particularly concerned about the challenges facing the state — the need for economic growth and job creation, education, health care, energy and environmental issues.

Frankel, 66, has been supervisor of Brighton for the past 16 years. She was also the Democratic candidate in an unsuccessful bid for lieutenant governor in 1998.

Frankel’s going to be a strong contender for this seat.  And, yeah, she’s got it right on Robach’s conservative voting record being out of sync with the values of the 56th district. From an article we did a while back:

…the Conservative party has given him a higher rating every year for the last 3 years.

Scary. But how does he rate compared to the rest of the state Senate?

So, he’s not only getting even more conservative than he already was, he’s in a tie for the 3rd most conservative rating in the NY Senate.

It’ll be interesting to see an update of that.  It would be tough for him to move to the center he supposedly inhabits, without alienating his conservative base in Greece.

Alesi…(shudder)…

…has anyone figured out what he of all people was doing on a ladder when he fell and broke his leg? I just don’t see JimBo as the “ladder” type, unless he was trying to mount a rainbow to get to the pot of gold at the other side.

Anyone heard anything more on Koon (or anyone else) running against Alesi? I’m jealous of those in district 56 having 3 candidates to choose from when we in 55 don’t have one yet. It’s a hard decision for Koon though as he’d have to resign from the assembly - is that correct?

clarification - he wouldn’t have to resign, he’d just not be able to run for re-election.

oh my god my friends and i were discussing the same thing! a guy who drives a mini, red, rag top mercedes with a ‘jimmy’ vanity plate ain’t cleaning his own gutters in the middle of january! i am sorry if this negative stereotype offends anyone, but given his business and his own bragging of the ‘ old neighborhood’, i might guess it somesort of payback.

Could have been a ladder in his house if he was hanging a picture or something.

” And, yeah, she’s got it right on Robach’s conservative voting record being out of sync with the values of the 56th district. ”

Really?

The largest portion of his funding and backing comes from the western area of his district, Greece. He recieves huge support from the fundamentalist First Bible Baptist Church for one. (Despite his indiscrection with a staffer.)

He fits right in with these folks and they give big and vote.

And he’s slick. I remember when he came to a global warming event at the Twelve Corners and even members of the east side MoveOn were fawning over him. He stroked them telling them how much he was moved by the show of democracy in action. Only a few caught on that he said a lot of nothing, but most were praising him.

Last year the Alliance for Quality Education/Metro Justice held a rally admonishing him for his failure to get equitable school funding. And what happened, most of the speakers from the city gushed about how much they loved Joe depite his failure to help them out. It was surreal.

You have to give him credit he can smooze a crowd. He gets folks their money and tells them what they want to hear.

He’ll crush Sandy Frankel in the city and Greece.

if you mean the rally at charlotte for aqe, i was there. and you are right on. and this is how it goes everywhere because people don’t listen to him closely. if you open a tuna can the dude shows up and talks for 10 minutes. so when people disagree with him on issues, i guess they give him a pass for being a hard worker. forget the fact he spent the first part of his career blaming the senate for problems and now he blames the assembly.
