RT Rochester News Roundup - 2/4/08
So, there was some game that happened yesterday that people were talking about, guess it was important or something. Something’s going on tomorrow too, now what was it…? Anyway, here’s some other stuff going on, that may be important as well. I’ve got my spidey sense at full power, looking for bad news that the county or other local places might want to dump today and tomorrow, since they hope it will get lost in the shuffle. If you know of anything, let us know in the comments, or send us a tip via email!
- The Greece School Board will talk tonight about what the heck is going on with the Comptroller’s audit that didn’t reflect well on the school district.
- Allendale Columbia school is becoming more and more green, even having a sustainability task force. Lots of interesting stuff in the article, including a Pittsford dude that put in geothermal heating into his house.
- Whatever happened to Duffy’s own sustainability task force, the “Green Team“? Anyone hear anything since they kicked it off last July? Wish the city website would make it easy to find out the latest status of these initiatives. How about the county’s green efforts (aside from photo-op style window dressing)?
- The investigation into State Senate GOP Majority Leader Joe Bruno widens, over his doing “business development” for investment firms. No conflict of interest, I’m sure.
- Robert Harding at TAP on county governments criticizing Spitzer’s budget, saying it will cause high property taxes:
High property taxes? Really? I know Orleans County’s contingent was in attendance and they have no place to talk. Check out Orleans County’s property tax rates which were set well before Spitzer’s budget proposal. These counties are looking for a scapegoat with their own property tax problems. The state is the last place to go to point the finger.
What’s another county you could say this about? Maybe one just to the east of Orleans county? What’s it called? Monroe or something.
- He also profiles Jon Powers’ (D candidate for Tom Reynold’s House seat) fundraising strength and Reynolds’ vulnerability.
- RT alumni Sahar weighs in with his endorsement of Obama.

[...] We mentioned earlier this week that the investigation into Republican State Senate Leader Joe Bruno had broadened (via the NYT): Federal authorities have widened their investigation of the Senate majority leader, Joseph L. Bruno, issuing subpoenas to pension funds affiliated with union locals in and around the senator’s Albany-area district, people with knowledge of the investigation said. [...]
