Doing the right thing
I received this email from a friend and felt it was important enough to pass on. We should not only call people on the things they do wrong, we should thank people for the things they do right.
Some of you have been very supportive in opposing the electronic voting machines for New York State voters.
By way of background on the final decision, Commissioner Doug Kellner was alone (the other Democratic Commissioner was ill) when the two Republican members of the Board of Elections refused to meet with him on finalizing their choices of voting machines. They wanted Commissioner Kellner to allow a DRE machine that did not meet New York State requirements to be selected as one of the approved voting machines for County Commissioners to choose from.
But he refused and so they made him wait for several hours before agreeing to make the final decision which omitted the Liberty DRE machine. Now only paper ballots with optical scan are certified for final choice by the county election commissioners for the disabled and have a good chance of being the only voting machines later chosen for the general public.
A Syracuse friend who was working against electronic voting machines in New York State for the Sierra Club now asks us to consider writing to thank Commissioner Kellner. You are most welcome to send a thank you note to the email address below,
This is huge, and it took no small cajones to stand up to the 2 Repos from the NYS Board of Elections. Drop him a line, if you would.
