Interesting post at the new Channel 13 blog

Channel 13 has a new political blog and so far it’s producing some interesting posts. Today there’s a piece contrasting the Hillary campaign with the Obama campaign, in terms of management styles. I like these kinds of details and the post is well-worth reading:

This week I spoke to the chairs of the Monroe County Clinton campaign and the Monroe County Obama campaign. Quite a difference. Ken Preston is heading up the Obama campaign locally. He’s not paid, and he welcomes any media inquiry regarding the Obama campaign. Ken is a sunny guy who is pumped to help his candidate. He called me back immediately and made it clear that he’s going to be available for an interview whenever we need it.

Clinton has a paid Monroe County chair; the Senator hired Lauren Kelly away from the Monroe County Democratic Committee to help her campaign. I had a pleasant conversation with Kelly, and she told me she’d be happy to sit down for an interview.

I asked both Preston and Kelly to email me about upcoming campaign events. Preston told me that we’ll be welcome to attend and get access. Kelly followed up with this email:

Evan,

At this time, we are directing all media calls to Frank Rothman, at the New York Campaign office.

One of the most interesting things about getting involved with politics up close is seeing how different campaigns operate.  Many in the blogosphere are drawn more to Edwards and Obama rather than Hillary because of the more grassroots nature of their campaigns. On the other hand, I have a friend who is voting for Hillary — and possibly working for her campaign in a few months — in large because of the more corporate way her campaign conducts itself. He thinks it’s more efficient and more productive and suggests a disciplined, orderly approach to governing.

The best part of the blog is that they credit Istock Photo for the picture. Good to know that WHAM not only shelled out a total of $1 for the picture instead of using local talent, but that they also see fit to give them a free plug as well.

I really like Evan Dawson and Rachel Barnhart… They seem very straight up about reporting the news. Very much looking forward to following their blog

Can we get an RSS feed though? I realize big media wants me to come to their site to click their ads, etc. but come on.

If you use stock photo companies, giving them credit is part of the licensing fee. It’s not free, they just paid for it.

I’ll say Hillary’s campaign is more “corporate”….you’re talking about taking large corporate campaign contributions, right?
