Brooks Running for Walsh’s Seat: Irresponsible at Best
So, now that everyone’s atwitter with rumors of Maggie Brooks running for Jim Walsh’s congressional seat, it’s gotten me thinking.  Running for Congress requires a lot of time and travel– just ask Eric Massa. He’s been up and down the 29th district so many times I shudder to think of the mileage he’s piled up on his car. He’s away from home so much I’m surprised his dog doesn’t bite him when he returns.
Walsh’s district, NY-25, is a little better than the 29th, size-wise. But not much. To get enough name recognition and support to be in the running, Brooks would have to pretty much abdicate the County Exec position now, and start campaigning non-stop. Pretty irresponsible for someone who talks a good game about just wanting to represent Monroe County.
Then again, given
- her lack of oversight resulting in the Water Authority scandal,
- her COMIDA giveaways to political donors,
- her lack of transparency in the Ren Square project,
- her stop-gap, short-sighted budget management, and, not least,
- the underhanded & misleading way her unFAIR plan was conceived, advertised, and voted into existence
maybe it would be a good thing for the county if she stepped down. How much is she really holding the reins, anyway? Here’s a clue: a local political insider recently called her “Steve Minarik’s smiley face.”

Don’t forget her silence on the public defender selection process! She has the bully pulpit for the County GOPers. Why is she willing to talk about anything except ensuring we select our next public defender based on merit? She’s a disgrace.
Don’t forget the fees to towns for college attendance, increase in DMV fees locally (not because of a state increase), using town cronies to reassess property values to incorporate an increase in the County Property taxes collected, and her and Minarik’s private advertsing agency that was utilized to produce the unFair TV and radio ads immediately after her announcement.
Yeah, she’s a real rotten peach alright.
This is getting good. I want Maggie to run for Congress. It won’t be until she runs for a more high profile office such as Congress that her background will be fully investigated
