Remember when Maggie kept saying the schools will get enough State aid… Ooops
I guess we will know on Tuesday how much aid each district will get. From the D&C:
The state will still give funds, but apparently at a reduced rate. Why would that be?
But the state economy has cooled dramatically since then, raising concerns about how much more spending and borrowing the state can afford. Spitzer is also expected to propose reduced increases in planned school property-tax rebates Tuesday, as well as cuts in health-care spending in an attempt to balance the budget, expected to total more than $125 billion, without raising taxes.
Remember when Maggie kept repeating that record state aid will solve all of the schools financial problems caused by her unFAIR plan?
Looks like this means the increased aid will be off-set by reductions in other areas, meaning it becomes a wash.
Good thing we didn’t have any tax increases in Monroe County in 2007.
Ooops!

Oddly enough, I comments on this this morning in the Gates blog - http://www.democratandchronicle.com/blogs/gates/2008/01/fair-prediction.html
You have to wonder what’s going to happen when all the Catholic grammer school kids have to go back to public schools because the Bishop is closing their schools. It can only make the situation worse as the schools have to hire more staff to obsorb these kids.
The media is now spinning this as Spitzer’s fault for not giving the schools enough money to meet the FAIR plan cuts and thus his fault for the rise in property taxes which could make him very unpopular; Maggie can get away with murder. This despite its a $1.46 billion increase statewide, but no one will hear that.
because no one asked maggie at the time, ‘do you have proof or assurances that the state will give more money?’ as is the case locally, if you are first to press, you are right.
[...] much as anticipated. Good thing, the unFAIR plan is an independent, local solution not relying on forces outside Monroe County - Oops. Speaking of schools - many religious schools are being closed by the Catholic Diocese. 13 schools [...]
