In Case You Missed It…

Welcome to the It takes a town village lot of people edition.

Let’s start with the good and bad of the D&C. There was this breaking news, Maggie Brooks raised your taxes. 2 words - No kidding. well, three more, Told you so. btp poetically opens a post - “whose your daddy” about good D&C piece covering nepotism in E.R . There was also this bit of drivel that exile appropriately eviscerates - former Greece Blogger, now community blogger, Petrena Hayes pens her first speaking out essay about Congressional health care. A narrowly focused piece that missed an opportunity to actually discuss health care.

COMIDA was in the news - Brighton continues to fight for the return of misspent COMIDA monies. Yep, where COMDIA sets rules, exempts someone from taxes, and when the rules are not followed waits to be asked by a town to recover ill-gotten gains. Metro Justice packed the house at the COMIDA annual review meeting. We discussed the meeting, the cost of COMDIA and the impact on our taxes. We also asked a bunch or questions about COMIDA allowing the Harley school to float $10 million dollars worth of tax free municipal bonds. We provided answers here - there is an impact. 10 million dollars - $7 million dollars for refinancing. How many jobs are created when loans are refinanced?

Public defender selection nonsense. Well, the Public Defender selection committee was disbanded. Those who wanted the community to be part of the process refused to participate. Legislature DictatorPresident Zyra disbanded the committee. The D&C continues to call for some sort of intervention. How is that working out Mr Lawrence? Maggie or Minarik returning your calls? Meanwhile - looks like direct action is working. At a Public meeting Assemblyman David Gantt is threatened with arrest.

Presidential Politics. The New York State Primary on Feb 5th is still a few weeks away and we’ve been engaged in friendly candidate sparing. We will have more as we get closer to the primary. Ladkiddo fresh off her visit to NH writes about Obama’s reference to Reagan and Edwards response. There is a lot of debate in the comments. Isn’t it great when Dems can argue over strong viable candidates. What is missing in the fun is this. Republicans are wandering or their conservative base is wandering. Yep, from a Republican perspective is looking more and more like mourning in America.

Feb 5th is more than Presidential Politics There might be a special election to replace the Republican State Senator in the 48th district. A Dem win here means - “then there is one”. Check it out and, if you can help, make some time.

Finally

Randy Kuhl, fresh off of berating Congress for, in his words, doing nothing but naming Post Offices, he extols all the good that he is doing in Congress and all the progress Congress is making by is mailing out deceptive bs at taxpayer expense.

Local authors shine - David Cay Johnston is interviewed in the City and on Bill Moyers. He discusses tax giveaways that hurt our society. Steve Coffman reads Founders v. Bush. He compares the thoughts of the the Founders with the current direction of our country. Both excellent reads.

Maybe with COMIDA is takes a Town, or in ER it takes a village, in the end, it takes the people or as Ladkiddo says the Lilliputanslittle people. When people band together they can accomplish great things.

See you next week.
