BREAKING: GOP Attempts to Hijack Public Safety Committee Meeting
Our RT correspondant was at the meeting we announced earlier, and called me to report on how the banana republic tactics continue. Remember this was a meeting to just discuss the interviewing process for the Public Defender candidates. For example, what questions they’d ask them, etc.
Committee Chariman Mike Barker (R) wanted to take the meeting into “Executive Session”, which means behind closed doors, out of the eye of the public. If they were discussing the relative merits of the candidates, I could understand, maybe. But to discuss the process?
What are they trying to hide?
The Dems wanted to discuss it in public, and were raising questions. Barker kept insisting they go into Executive Session, with the crowd insisting “Let them speak!” Eventually the Dems walked out in disgust, and Barker ordered the police to clear the room.
The GOP’s closed government continues. Really, what are they trying to hide?
WHAM 13, the D&C, and (I think) RNews was there. It’ll be interesting to see how this gets covered. Too bad spin-master and former GOP Majority Leader Bill Smith is no longer there– it was amazing to watch him when he would do his lawyer thing and spin any situation.
More soon…

Channel 13 played it out with David Gantt almost being handcuffed and arrested. Channel 13 played the edited version, but has the unedited version on their website.
Why am I beginning to believe that incidents like this one, and in East Rochester, Pittsford and Mendon are NOT accidents?
It’s getting very strange in Republican land.
It’s strange because entities such as the GOP begin acting weird when they sense their loss on the grip of power. Hopefully this struggle will wind up with GOP out on their asses in Monroe County and across the country.
Interesting GoM that “change” to them means gaining greater control, while “change” to the voters represents taking away control. And if aggressive denial is their mindset, this will be one massive meltdown that is going to be felt soon.
they sense loss of power, so they try to hold on tighter to what they have. but keep in mind, the tighter you grip, the more slips through your fingers. i agree with both of you guys on that.

[...] The meeting, last week, of the County Leg Public Safety Committee, apparently got ugly. The Audience refused to leave, the Republicans tried to take the meeting behind closed doors, the Democrats got disgusted and left. [...]
