Hillary’s secret admirer
Newt Gingrich is back, showing his affinity for Hillary Clinton again with praise and adulation. From the Politico:
After Clinton’s third-place finish in the Jan. 3 Iowa Democratic caucuses, “it would have been very easy for her to have broken, accepted defeat,†Gingrich said in a weekly podcast e-mailed to supporters.
“Instead, starting on Saturday night, she fought back with greater and greater intensity, and she opened herself up,” Gingrich went on. “She talked as a person, without all the protection, without all the discipline, and she became more and more appealing.â€
Gingrich said that shift demonstrated “the courage to learn†and enabled the New York senator to grow “in the space of three or four days to a much more attractive, much more aggressive and much more appealing candidate.â€
Has our New York Senator reached a soft spot in Newt’s heart?
Naw, I’m thinkin there must be more to this. What’s in this for the salamander? Is he looking for a 2nd place, split ticket, VP kind of thing? Maybe a position with the new administration next January? What would have caused him to deposit himself into Hilary’s admiring throng?
He went on to advise her not to attack Obama but instead to counter his message of change by launching “the strongest possible appeal to women†on the grounds that “electing a woman president is, in and of itself, the real change.â€
(snip)
The Iowa and New Hampshire results, Gingrich said prove “the American people are certainly committed to real change.†Which got him to his next point: a book he wrote titled … “Real Change,†which he told listeners is scheduled for release next week and will “outline exactly what we need to be doing.â€
The question is, What kind of change is Gingrich looking for? Maybe we’ll have to read the book.

Maybe we are under estimating Newt… misunderstood, but with the heart of gold? He seems like a nice enough guy and he tried and…
Wait, isn’t that that moment of hesitation, that doubt, that got us the Contract with America? We have already seen Newt’s vision of “Real Change”. Hows everybody enjoying NAFTA?
Good point +x3. Here’s a little tidbit of what went on:
Not only did Gingrich vote for NAFTA, he was an active participant in using a lame duck session of a Democratic Congress in 12/94 to get the WTO quickly approved before newly elected Republicans, who had swept the 11/94 elections, were sworn into office. At that time, Republicans tended to vote in favor of U.S. sovereignty and against entangling the U.S. is complex trade deals that were potentially destructive to the interests of the American worker and American interests.
What other diabolical schemes could Newt be conjuring with another Clinton in office, I wonder?
“NAFTA was able to secure passage after Bill Clinton made its passage a major legislative priority in 1993. Since the agreement had been signed by Bush under his fast-track prerogative, Clinton did not alter the original agreement, but complemented it with the aforementioned NAAEC and NAALC. After intense political debate and the negotiation of these side agreements, the U.S. House passed NAFTA by 234-200 (132 Republicans and 102 Democrats voting in favor.”
I remember President Clinton speaking about the importance of this trade agreement on numerous occasions prior to it’s passage so I really think far more credit should go to him.
Call me cynical, but I suspect that Newt’s not on the Clinton bandwagon. After all, he was the one that led the charge for Bill’s impeachment in the first place, and even recently has defended that impeachment.
I think the Republicans want to run against Hillary, they view her as a wedge candidate that they can use to rile up their woman-hating, Clinton-hating base which sadly is all too prevalent.
You may be absolutely right. Or, this could be a win-win situation for Newt. If she wins the nomination, but not the presidency-win for Newt. If she wins both the nomination and the presidency-win for Newt.
