Randy Kuhl - If you don’t like the term “Rubberstamp Randy” - “Roadblock Randy” works too.
There are two points in this post - The Republican talking point about the supposed do-nothing 110th Congress is wrong, and Randy Kuhl, good GOP soldier that he is, comes armed with the latest hypocritical talking points.
Roadblock Republicans
Trent Lott said it best “The strategy of being obstructionist can work or fail and so far it’s working for us.” And the media is buying into this as well. In fact you can read a clear account here. The objective of the Republican party in Washington is to obstruct any Democratic legislation and eventually say “see- the Democrats didn’t get anything done”.
The links above tell you how but basically the Republican talking points are to say nothing is getting done in the 110th Congress while they actually are obstructing legislation. So a bill passed in the House dies in the Senate
Back to Roadblock Randy - the Hypocrite.
Here is the deal.
Randy sends out these email newsletters telling his constituents about Congress. Here is a clip from the January 2008 newsletter.
JANUARY 2008 NEWSLETTER
Hello Friends,
Happy New Year. I hope you all had a safe and wonderful holiday season. As many of you know the 110th Democratic led Congress has been called
the “Do Nothing Congress” or the “Post Office Congress.” This Congress has received those labels because of a lack of progress, stalled legislation, and political games by the majority. Instead of tackling the important issues like immigration, social security, and improving healthcare, the Democratic leadership has decided to rename federal buildings. In fact, of the 155 bills signed into law, 64 of them renamed post offices and court houses.
The Congress he refers to as the “Post Office Congress” is also the topic of his blog.
So the 110th Congress is simply renaming Post Offices.
But let me just add a few words - Corporal Jason L. Dunham. See, Randy sponsored a bill to rename a Post office in Scio, NY after this brave marine who died in Iraq and was awarded the Medal of Honor. But since this was the 109th Congress I suppose Randy isn’t counting this.
But - this is the 110th Congress, so let’s have a look.
- John Sununu (R-NH) did the same thing - For a New Hamsphire Police Officer
- Rep. Mark Souder (R-IN) did the same thing for Lance Corporal David Fribley
- Rep. Lynn Westmoreland [R-GA] did the same thing for a famous Georgian Frank G Lumpkin Jr.
Or my personal favorite -
- Rep. Jo Ann Emerson [R-MO] renaming a court house the “Rush Hudson Limbaugh, Sr. United States Courthouse” (Radio Rush’s grandfather).
You can look for yourself - click here and search for Post Offices or whatever you want.
Um - Reality paging Congressman Kuhl - your party is renaming post offices and court houses. But, we don’t care about renaming Post Offices from either party. That is something Congress does - a good thing that Congress does - honoring people.
This is an issue of Randy bending the truth and attempting to distort reality.
My question is, will anyone call him on it?
- I’m guessing the D&C op-ed board will have a shot and miss, but we will call them on it.
- Citizens attending his town hall meetings will have a shot - and will need to be reminded. Hello youtube.
- Sounds like the fodder of good letters to to the editor as well.

Wow, that’s really crazy… How the hell can Kuhl justify attacking the democrats for something he just took credit for only one year ago. Kuhl is such a hypocrite. Perhaps the ratio of post office bills passed wouldn’t be so high if he didn’t vote in lockstep with George Bush.
He’s so good at making an ASS of himself. Tom RAYnolds did the same thing in his little “mailer” claiming to have STOPPED Eliot Spitzer from letting the illegals that got through the whole in the fence learn to drive.
To think men of this caliber hold these levels of position is scary. Here’s a new election slogan for the next Congressional races:
SMART PEOPLE ONLY FOR CONGRESS! IDIOTS AND STOOGES STAY HOME!
Oh yeah, two SMART, INTELLIGENT, DEDICATED, PROFESSIONAL PEOPLE *are* running for these seats (imagine that!)

“All The Way To Washington!”
Speaking of chutzpah, here’s the 8 1/2 by 11 mailer we got from Kuhl:
Side 1 - “No child in New York should ever have to live without health coverage.’
Side 2 - I voted to reauthorize the State Children’s Health Insurance Program to ensure that over 6 million children will continue to receive the care they need. I support health care for low-income children, and I support the SCHIP program. Thorughout the last several months I have remained committed to reauthorizing SCHIP to cover all of America’s low-income children. I voted for an SCHIP reauthorization that increases funding for current enrollement levels and provides additional resources to help states avoid potential problems without raising taxes. I VOTED YES to the bill that ensures any child currently with SCHIP coverage will continue to have access to health insurance. I VOTED YES to the bill that serves the most needy children first. I VOTED YES to a bill that covers low-income American children, not illegal aliens. This reauthorization allows Congress additional time to work together and craft a bill that puts poor children first.” (More stuff on this side, but that’s most of it.)
Are they putting something in the freaking water?
