More Fireworks in East Rochester
While RT’s correspondant writes up his report on what he saw at tonight’s organizational meeting, the D&C has this:
Mayor Jason Koon said Wednesday he was elected to break up a “club of
insiders†in East Rochester’s village government.
Koon addressed a crowd of about 700 at Wednesday’s Village Board organizational meeting.
“Business as usual has come to an end,†said Koon, who unseated former Mayor David Bonacchi in November.
The meeting’s atmosphere grew tense at times, with people shouting out from the crowd.
“I will not be pushed aside,†Koon said. “I was elected for a reason.â€
Koon defended his decision to fire three appointed village employees, saying residents had frequently complained to him during his campaign of cronyism in village government.
Good on him for calling a spade a spade.
At least he had a chance to talk about his initial plans to help pull ER out of the decades-long slump it’s been in:
Koon proposed a public safety task force to address a rise in petty crimes in East Rochester. He also proposed a task force to find ways to reduce property taxes in East Rochester.
Koon introduced the idea for an “East Rochester Living Sundays†program, similar to Rochester’s City Living Sundays, which are intended to attract people to locate in the city.
More from RT’s correspondant later.
