Beating a dead horse
I’ve written about this many times before, but it bears repeating: Congressional Democrats are maintaining a huge financial advantage over their Republican counterparts:
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee raised $4.1 million in November, compared with the $2.7 million brought in by the National Republican Congressional Committee.
The DCCC now has $30.7 million cash on hand, exponentially more than the $2.3 million banked by the NRCC.
On the Senate side, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee ended November with $25.5 million banked, more than double the cash on hand of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, with about $10.4 million.
(snip)
…with the Democratic committees’ advantages in fundraising, recruitment and retirements, they are in strong position to hold their majority into 2008 as they try to build on last year’s successes.
Local Congressional Republicans will try to scare voters with horror stories about immigrants…but they may not have enough money to inundate our airwaves with their propaganda.

Good news. Keep it coming!
Hey, Politico: the word “exponentially†does not mean what you think it means.
Talk about scare tactics with immigrants…RNews did a story last night about Rudy coming to town for a private fund raiser in Brighton (albiet he arrived and hour and a half late)…and in the interview with Giuliani, he said he’s best equipped to be President because he is best equipped to take on the threat from “Islamo terrorists”…
It’s going to be a page right out of “The Boogieman’s School of Campaign Tactics” in 2008 - from the white house to the town hall. Guaranteed.
Okay, so let’s anticipate the ads they’ll come out with. Write them, describe them. Then explain what’s wrong with them. For example:
(Sorry - I can’t get the spacing right below)
Man coming home from work, tired, worn down. Grainy, black and white. “Honey, I’ve got some bad news. I’ve been laid off.”
“What? You’ve worked there for twenty years. How can they do that to you?”
“They’ve hired cheaper labor. They don’t have to pay expensive health care costs which have gotten so high due to the trial lawyers suing the poor insurance companies.”
“Where did they get cheaper labor?”
“That Governor Spitzer has made this state a haven for illegal immigrants. They’re happy to take our jobs, and receive low pay without benefits.” “What will we do now?” “I don’t know. I guess our children just won’t have Christmas this year.”
Then explain how insurance costs aren’t due to trial lawyers, but insurance company investments and profits, and that illegal Spitzer has not affected the employment market for illegal immigrants, etc.
Just a thought.
Oops - not illegal Spitzer. Just Spitzer.
I agree that’s a good idea. One thing that is interesting to do is to try to anticipate the arguments the right-wing will come up with. What’s funny is I used to do this in the comments on some national liberal blogs and they practically chased me off.
It’s very important to expose ourselves to their talking points so that we can understand how to defeat them.
I could see a commercial in regards to the raid they did when the Cheesecake Factory was being built and they arrested over 20 illegals working at the site. They show the Mexican worker coming home to his wife and children with a t-shirt that says
“I went all the way to New York State and all I brought you back was this lousy cheesecake”
How about hitting them where they live?
Scene: rich white man coming home to rich wife who’s sitting exhausted on her couch.
“Lovey… what ever’s the matter?”
Wife: “It’s the INS… they’ve taken Juanita…” weeping now “I had to CLEAN today..”
Rich husband: “I never thought it would come to this… immigration reform is great, but NOT in MY back yard!”
