Corruption in East Rochester
The situation in East Rochester is crazy. These corrupt republicans are flopping around like a dying fish. Just take a look at this from today’s D&C:
Paul Bonacchi was arrested after showing up at an Aug. 11 fundraising barbecue for Koon’s mayoral campaign. Koon says Bonacchi swore at some of his supporters, one of whom went to the police.
After the charges against him were dropped on Nov. 26, Bonacchi sued claiming false arrest, malicious prosecution and violations of his right to free speech.

On Dec. 13, the board went to into executive session to discuss the notice of claim and Bryson recommended that they pay Bonacchi $10,000. Four board members voted to pay the sum. Koon abstained from the vote.
After the vote, Koon obtained a second opinion from East Rochester lawyer Frank Odorisi, who said that the payment of such a claim without pretrial discovery was premature.
“That’s when we made the decision to terminate the attorney,” said Koon, who says he will try to recoup the money.
In a statement, Koon wrote, “I believe the payment of this claim without proper discovery gives at the very least the appearance of impropriety on behalf of the board but in fact may be a political payout.”
On Nov. 26 the former Mayor’s brother sued the village. Less than one month later the village board votes to settle the suit for $10,000, that time-line raises serious questions. How could they have possibly evaluated the suit in such a short period of time?
If any of you have further info about goings on in ER, please let us know in the comments. We’d love to hear how the village board came to their decision to pay off the former mayor’s brother.

I think that, for one, no one in E.R. really expected anyone to pay attention. E.R. has always been off-the-beaten-path for most everyone in the Rochester area, and lived in it’s own private bubble this whole time. Ask around: people who graduated from school there more often than not still work or live there, and there are very few immigrants.
Not that it’s any kind of excuse, of course. But small towns tend to operate under their own rules. Just ask anyone who lives in Honeoye.
I say all this having lived in both towns, and mean no disrespect.
i can tell you that the decision to pay out came in a private, after a public, meeting, despite involving tax payer money.
and any help on the d and c web boards would be greatly appreciated. they have devolved into dave koon is only elected because his daughter was shot. the media needs to know that there are two sides to this story that they are missing.
How did they agree to pay him off? By practice and experience…the same way they paid off a planning board member’s husband when Bonacchi was an ER POLICE OFFICER - only he got about 20K - and it’s a matter of record at the Count yClerk’s Office. It’s how one earns a living in East Rochester - lawsuits against the Village settled out of court and employment with the village with no experience other than name.

As a Greece resident it’s so nice to see another backwards town start to get the attention it deserves.
What a joke these guys are; family values, tax payer protection, blah, blah, blah.
And don’t forget the fish stinks from the head down.
My fingers are crossed that Jason Koon has the strength and stamina to really go after all this and clean up my Village!
It looks to me that his next order of business should be getting an independent audit. I stress INDEPENDANT because I know of audits in the past, run by Republicans on the county and State level that did not dig deep enough and find the problems or at least acknowledge them…even when they were led to certain issues. Yep, the fish truly stinks from the head down!!!
My tax dollars would be well spent on such an audit.
Just wondering…how come there are no true investigative reporters anymore around here? Journalists used to help protect the people from such shenanigans, but that does not happen. If it did then someone would have looked at ER’s connections to MCWA and to Rural-Metro Ambulance through the Republican Party. Mayor Duffy…take a good look at WHY they want to over-ride your veto and why they are pushing so hard for Rural Metro. ER Republican connections and protections do not stop at the Village line.
