Tom Reynolds Will Deliver You From EVIL! Or, not.
Remember the sleazy, racist, fearmongering, anti-immigrant mailer that the local GOP sent out last fall? You know, this one:
And remember Exile’s prediction that you’d be seeing this all the time for the 2008 race? The dust has barely settled on the 2007 races, and lookit who’s getting in on the sleazy, racist, fearmongering, immigrant-hating mailer biz:

Who could it be? Who shall save us? Why, it’s Rep. Tom Reynolds (R)!

What a joke. He couldn’t even protect teenagers working in Congress from a sex predator (he was busy protecting the predator), can someone explain how he’s going to fend off all those scary, scary Hispanics coming to make a few hard-earned bucks for their families? (And providing cheap labor to all those farms in Orleans and Genesee county?)
Why does the GOP go for the cheapest, easiest, most destructive way to get votes? There are so many issues facing our country, it’s really frustrating that they need to constantly find black liberal gay immigrant boogeymen to try to scare people with, to distract from the real issues facing Americans now and in the future. I guess that’s easier than actually dealing with those real problems.
On the flip side…some of the other parts of the mailer.
Note how he uses the GOP term “illegal immigrants”. And advances the whole concept of “your taxpayer money is being used to fund benefits for BAD people!”

Obligatory picture of a border patrol vehicle.
And of course there’s the whole page dedicated to how awesome Reynolds is compared to that crazy, crazy Gov. Spitzer.

And don’t forget, this thinly-veiled piece of 2008 campaign lit “was prepared, published, and mailed at taxpayer expense”!
Wait– maybe our tax money really is funding benefits for BAD people. Huh.

I can see how playing to xenophobic fear might work in some parts of the country, but is this really a big issue for Western NYers?
It worked for the county, and it will work for the state, just like it worked for the country.
You and I may see through this, but they are counting on Joe America NOT deciphering the truth.
Reynolds wouldn’t be spending that hard earned cash on mailers had he thought it was without merit, which in his world means VOTES and MONEY.
…Which is why we need to ask him the hard question Paige - he’s been in Congress how long? And he’s just realized there is a whole in the fence?
He created the problem - he is NOT the solution. Times up - he had his chance.
JON POWERS FOR CONGRESS - “All The Way To Washington!”
There is a scary amount of vitriol spewing around this country.
I’m a register Republician so I got this flyer a couple of days ago along with anothe one a few weeks back. I saved it so I can mail it back to him to ask why, as a 5 term congressman he allowed this to happen.
I really believe he knows he’s in trouble. He almost got beat by Jack Davis the last time and he was barely a real canidate. The thing that has to be stressed is that Tom has almost nothing for the 80K people he represents in Greece!
