When Stephen met Rudy

We’ve remarked before on Stephen Minarik’s infatuation with a Bloomberg candicacy, which some might interpret as a distaste for Giuliani’s candidacy. This — and other incidents like it — may help explain this:

But in the 2000 Senate race, some thought Giuliani didn’t show the same persistence he had in winning the mayor’s office in 1993 and 1997. One campaign adviser told reporters it was like “pulling teeth” to get the mayor to attend fundraisers. Throughout 1999, he said the best way to run for the Senate was to be a good mayor.

Giuliani skipped several upstate fundraisers, including a Lunch With Rudy fundraiser with 400 women in Rochester, to attend opening day at Yankee Stadium in April 2000. He announced the cancellation the day before the event.

Giuliani’s other upstate events that day included a women’s forum, a question-and-answer session at a senior center and a $1,000-a-person fundraiser near Buffalo.

The Monroe County Republican Chairman, Stephen Minarik, told The New York Times, “I hope in the future that he’ll find some time for us up here. . . . I’m not going to kid you and say that there’s not disappointment. A lot of people did put a lot of time into this event.”

Now that Giuliani’s shuffled off from Buffalo his fundraisers have taken off a differene tone. Here’s how one recent Virginia fundraisier was described by a campaign aide (from the same article):

“It was built around the 10 Commandments and denunciation after denunciation of Hillary Clinton.”

Thou shalt marry no more than three times.

People are often most upset with those who most closely approximate their own inadequacies.

That’s thug for republican. Don’t raise money - it’s the SERIOUS threat. I wonder what they do when they get REALLY PO’d - like tell the Lincoln people not to sell Towncars to Monroe County GOP officials? Ouch - that’s gotta leave a mark.

Just grab your popcorn kiddies and get comfy - this is gonna be one show you’re not going to want to miss. The best is yet to come!
