Fool me once shame on you, Fool me a whole bunch of times - eventually I might get it.

Looks like Senator Reid finally is getting it. Of course, finally, because only this year he is Senate majority leader, so he controls the Senate and as such can use a parliamentary maneuver to prevent recess appointments.

From the Washington Post (good reading to be sure)

Showing the level of distrust between the White House and the Democrats, Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., announced that he would employ, apparently for the first time, what are called “pro forma” sessions as a tactic to technically keep the Senate on the job and stop recess appointments.

[snip]

Reid blamed the president for the move, saying the White House had been stalling on Democratic-recommended positions to several independent agencies. Agencies such as the Federal Communications Commission and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission are by law required to have Democratic representation.

Yeah - because we need more appointments like this,

Among the more controversial recess appointments Bush has made have included John Bolton to be ambassador to the United Nations and Sam Fox, a GOP fundraiser and contributor to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth during the 2004 presidential campaign, as ambassador to Belgium.

Hey Harry - Thanks for showing a set. If you want to whisper into our Senior Senator’s ear - the secret of taking a stand - don’t let us stand in your way. Just make sure Sen Schumer is listening.

Don’t think sit - think stand. Think vertebrate. Grow a spine next, and do what you were elected to do.

I think something else is going on. The Senior Senator changed - why? They either know something we don’t, or they’re putting something in the water.

But something is horribly wrong up on the Hill - and it’s becoming increasingly apparent. So it begs to question - WHY?
