When All you have is Hate and Lies… More Campaign Bull Lit from the County GOP

Building on Itchy’s post.

Check out how Republicans communicate disdain. The latest attack piece from the County GOP.

This is ridiculous. When all you have is Hate and Lies then you get these pieces.

I want to See Maggie Brooks denounce these pieces but she won’t because because they come from her Party. Also, I’m told the return address is the Brooks campaign.

I want to see Tobin and Lawrence denounce these pieces

I expect to see Mr Morrelle to round up all barrels and come out firing.

[btp here: Remember Minarik's similarly over-the-top mailer last year on behalf of the NY state GOP?

How well did that one work for ya, Steve? Lessee, all state-level seats filled by Dems for the first time in 70 years, at least one state senate seat lost... Here's hoping that Monroe County residents are as perceptive as voters were state-wide in 2006.]

Thank goodness we have Leave it to Beaver to combat this!

Mailings like this don’t even bother me anymore. Its to be expected.

Minarik won’t stop until Democrats make him pay for his racism and his fear mongering (which is a form of terrorism, these mailings are meant to scare people).

Um - it doesn’t have to bother you because you are likely a high information person.

Well beyond the target audience of this piece.

I know. These pieces are perfect for their targets or Steve M. wouldn’t be sending them.

That’s why I hope the Dems can make pieces like this backfire.

2007-11-01 16:01:07

I don’t buy into the doctrine of Minarikian infallibility. He was the worst state GOP chair in state history.

He may have sucked at running the state party, but Monroe county is dominated by the GOP despite a Democratic registration advantage. He’s good at what he does around here.

Mailings like this need to backfire and that requires a strong Democratic response.

Isn’t this quite a leap? I mean, when did the county democrats say that they were in favor of the licensing plan?

The Dems totally need to use this piece to their advantage. What better way to illustrate how unbelievably partisan the other side is than to make sure that every residents sees this piece on TV, and is then asked if this is the type of behavior they expect from their representative?

I think these lit. pieces demonstrate just how disgusting the local GOP can be. These are people who are more concerned with acting like a bunch of grade school kids to try and win an election, than working in a bipartisan fashion, as adults, to effectively govern this county.

I say, keep it coming Minarik. You’re Party is going to look utterly vulgar by Nov. 6th at this rate.

I agree - news conference time for Morelle. Hold up that mailing and lambaste them. Show utter disgust and contempt for the tactics and for the bottom-feeder politicians who use them. I mean a guy wearing a keffiyeh? OOOOhhh …. SCARY!!! Aren’t we beyond that?

Oh, by the way, the grammatically correct way to say it is “Democratic Legislators”, not “Democrat Legislators”. Just sayin.

“Oh, by the way, the grammatically correct way to say it is “Democratic Legislators”, not “Democrat Legislators”. Just sayin.”

Ah, good catch. We know that was no grammatical accident.

Ya that grammar trick is right out the Rove playbook… There are only two or three Republicans left in the country who still refer to the Democratic Party rather than the Democrat Party

Oh, and Maggie’s endorsement of the piece just goes to show what a facade she has put on for the public. She’s a pretty ugly person inside.

That’s my favorite part of the entire Spitzer license plan…The Department of Homeland Security is in favor of it. Part of the plan from my understanding was that some form of ID, be it a passport of whatever was still going to be required to get a license…when was the last time you heard about an illegal immigrant from say Guatamala who had a passport?

But more to the point, the closer we get to this election day the more I see Monroe County as a proving ground for tactics that the national GOP plans on using next year, I know it’s been discussed on here before, but I’m willing to bet we’re going to see these kinds of mailers in next years election, and it’s kind of a scary thought.

They didn’t work last year, and hopefully, they won’t work this year. I think the Dems’ response, along with the local media, will be key though.

Personally, I think its time for the media to wake up and start defending political decency in this county.

One of the reasons Minarik wins is that although there may be a Dem to Repub advantage or tie, there’s a huge Conservative swing vote and the head of that party weilds it like a mighty club.

I still can’t decide if my favorite part is the “welfare coupon” photo or the photo of the guy on the license with the headscarf looking mean.
What is a welfare coupon and why would a terrorist want one?

2007-11-01 18:50:33

That’s a pre-911 question. I’m not sure what a “welfare coupon” is, but I think there may be a reference to one in the lyrics to the theme song for “Good Times.”

Weren’t some of the 9/11 bunch here LEGALLY? Why would they need to apply for “Driver’s Licenses for Terrorists” when they could just apply for a license using their green card?!

Seriously, though… I’m opposed to the Spitzer plan, even the amended plan he has proposed, but this garbage makes me want to puke (more bulls**t in this flyer - illegal immigrants would NOT have a license that looks exactly like “yours and mine” per Spitzer’s proposal from last week). This mailing crosses the line and then some. Any person with a shred of decency and moral rectitude should condemn this mailing. If someone were to make this statement about a private citizen they’d be facing a libel suit. This is fear-mongering of the worst kind, and if I were a Republican I’d change my party affiliation if the GOP didn’t come out and condemn this sort of garbage. Since it has the fingerprints of Minarik all over it, I can only assume the GOP is standing behind these statements.

The scariest thing about all of this is how little regard the state GOP must have for it’s voter base. Actually I would have thought the type of person who would be swayed by this would be illiterate - let’s hope so! If this tactic is what it takes to motivate a certain segment of the GOP, and it’s successful, then what does that say about our so-called democracy?

So, let me get this straight. a) The illegals in question are already in the country, and b) giving them ID won’t bring more illegals into the country. c) Homeland Security wants to ID them because d) Federal Republicans came up with the idea to ID them rather than wonder how many of them are out there. Then e) our Democratic Governor supports the Republicans’ idea, which leads to the obvious conclusion that d) County Democrats support the plan, which is clearly proof that they love terrorists. Got it. Thanks.

I’m working on a friend of mine who wrote me an email pissed out of his mind because he got one of the fliers, and then got a robo-call from Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn. This isn’t a guy who is very political all the time, either.

Will continue working on it. . . .

Back in the 50s and 60s we had “communists” to blame for everything.

Now it is “TERRORISTS” we have to blame for everything. And if you aint against the terrorists and don’t tow the Republican/Conservitive party line then you must be a terrorist or at least a terrorist sympathiser.

Sadly the Dems don’t seem to be willing to take on the Rep.

Everything is wonderful in the US and especially in Monroe County and don’t you forget it.
