Are problems emerging in Razing Midtown Plaza? Only if this is 2010 not 2007.

Geez, let the first doubt be cast.

Reading the D&C this morning one would think that there are problems. I mean HUGE PROBLEMS. How could you not with a blaring headline - Problems Emerge in Razing Midtown.

There are funding numbers that don’t match. There are questions on how to remove Midtown. How not to damage the garage below. What will happen to the skyline walkway. What will happen to some surrounding buildings. How to account the 15 million dollars difference between what Spizter mentioned and what the State set aside for the project (More funds were set aside than mentioned - that is bad? nope).

That headline might be worthy of something regarding REN Square. I mean that project has been going on for what 4 or 5 years at least? It is run outside government oversight by an LDC. I mean they haven’t even agreed on the final plan and ground breaking is scheduled w/in the year.

No, we have a project that was announced like 2 weeks ago. It isn’t scheduled to be complete until maybe 2011 at the earliest. That is 4 years from now. PAETEC is just hiring architects now.

Come on

I do not doubt that there are questions and, as of this moment, we don’t have all the answers. Public scrutiny, government oversight and proper planning will resolve these issues.

This journey is just starting - as opposed to REN square who is long into their process.

i know this is a bit off topic, or at least not the point of the post, but i would like to see the skyway gone. here’s a thought as to why main st suffers while thousands of workers are downtown: they stay 1 or 2 stories above it while they meander through the corporate maze. foot traffice is vital to business. you live in rochester people, strap on a pair and walk outside for 5 minutes in the winter, it won’t kill you. and i used to work on the ‘gov’t’ side of the river, and we didn’t get no hoity toity (sic?) skyway. but i guess since we get rich off our super generous benefits, we can afford to brave the cold. ok, that was really off topic.

Well, no, not that far off topic at all. The whole idea is how to make downtown better, but instead, the D&C is making an issue out of the SkyWay. Funny thing: unless you work in one of those buildings, you probably don’t even know what the skyway is.

Have to agree with this one, I walked out to get the paper and I see that headline. I thought what went wrong now? Did teh PaeTec guys pull out, did the owners of the Mall decide it worth $100 million or they wont sell? What? Nothing really, jsut normal early stages of a BIG project that’s all.
Dennis, your really not off topic at all. Skyways have hurt almost every city they’ve ever been put in. They take the people off the streets and make the downtowns look desolete.
