Fighting media consolidation

I almost never pass along online petitions, but I’m passing this one along. Media consolidation may be the biggest issue we face in this country right now.

Kevin Martin, Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, has been keeping a secret from the American people. He wants to push through plans to remove decades-old media ownership protections. And he’s trying to do it without public scrutiny.

The FCC has a long history of making decisions behind closed doors. It’s time the public made the FCC accountable. Sign this letter and urge Congress to convene oversight hearings immediately.

Letters like this — millions of them — stopped media consolidation in 2003. Sign the letter and tell everyone you know.

saw this/FCC Plans include potential changes to public access channels or at least may allow existing operators to unburden themselves of any public service obligations.

The letter with the petition is a little over the top. You may want to edit the line that says “media is a life and death issue for me and my community.” At least I did.

  3. I agree the letter is a little over the top. Nevertheless, it’s a really important issue and I’d like to try to promote awareness.

what’s wrong with the home page of this site? The entire right side is blank, and it’s limited to only new posts on the left, and the center advertisements are at the bottom of the right hand side?

Yup - it started to be a problem as soon as the post about Colin Powell being evil went up. That might help you figure out what’s wrong?
