Monroe County GOP Funding Model?

Stlo7’s article on Steve Minarik’s Impact Communications media shop got me thinking. What you’ve got is pay-to-play at the county level, which means that, it has the appearance that strong GOP donors are given lucrative county contracts by the GOP-controlled county. Who funds the county so they can award those contracts? You and me, my friends. The picture is pretty simple, and infuriating:

This would partly explain the county GOP’s desire to outsource and privatize as much as possible. It also explains their push to remove funding for schools and threaten funding for libraries. After all, those two services are competing with their corporate donors for county funds.

So tell me, am I missing anything here? I was going to make a little loop from the MC GOP to Impact Communications, to show that taxpayers are partly funding Steve Minarik’s media company as well, but I didn’t want to clutter up the picture too much.

I heard a rumor that one of Ted Nixon’s upcoming one-minute online videos will feature the Siemens case, an egregious example of county Pay-to-Play if ever there was one. These are great little videos, by the way, a number of them already get after some of the well-known corruption stories.

Out here in the repub subs a number of us have wondered out loud if the county and its communications arms don;t have some hand (nor openly shown) in the GOP takeover of our public access channels
