Monroe County Legislature Public hearing on Maggie’s Tax intercept - It is easier to find Waldo than a Republican in an open forum

We will have more, much more later but here is a quick post on the Monroe County Legislature hearings. John Goodman from the D&C was there and wrote an article, Jeremy Moule and another reporter were there. Channels 10 and 13 were there as well - getting stock footage. They were gone early (as usual).

Maggie apologist Benjamin Wachs was not there. I was told it is a long commute from the coast on which he actually lives. Does he even live in Rochester?

Of course, RT was there until the bitter end with camera in hand. I say bitter end because after the 16 or so speakers you could not have anything but a bitter taste in your mouth.

Closed government, undemocratic principle, inequality, dishonesty, propaganda, lying, misrepresentation, blame, irresponsibility, and lost opportunity were just some of the reoccurring themes that the speakers hammered home.

So the press was there, the Democrats were there, citizens were there. Who are we missing? Um Republicans. Any Republican.

You would think that with all the community outrage - someone would have shown up representing Maggie Brook’s F.O.U.L plan. An Administration figure, a Republican legislator, a Republican Legislature candidate (like Anthony Daniele running for Bill Smith’s open seat). SOMEONE.

Alas - like oil and water - Monroe County Republicans and the will of the people simply do not mix. (remember they didn’t show up at a candidate forum either, or other open forums like COMIDA).

WHERE THE HECK ARE THE REPUBLICANS AND WHY ARE THEY NOT INTERESTED IN PUBLIC OPINION?

it felt more like a support group for those screwed by maggie, although if that were true there should have been about 750,000 people in there. it is sad that most people don’t realize the short sightedness of this proposal. maggie is making us clean up her budgeting skills which are disgraceful at best. i was hoping that at least one person would speak and say, ‘hey, it sucks but we have to do this and here’s why’. just one person to give me an argument for supporting this. but there was no one last night and it leads me to believe that there is no one who can give a rational explaination as to why this plan should be enacted.
