Meet Mr Smith: Would you like one talking point or two?
Before you even read this post - ask yourself - if Maggie Brooks’ F.A.I.R. plan was sooo good, sound, and functional - Why did it take a hastily called special session of the Monroe County legislature to pass it?
Why were requests for extra time to engage the community denied? I mean if this thing was so damn good - I would think Maggie and her minions would have been touting this well before a few hours prior to an expiration date.
Wouldn’t that have been responsible? That would take courage - wouldn’t it?
Instead, we have back-door deals, slamming legislation, no community involvement and the ugly veneer of spin in the form of Monroe County Legislator Bill Smith who rises to defend the plan.
After Democratic legislators including - Haney, Palumbo, O’Brien, and Bronson, and Andrews - spoke against the plan there was a Republican response. Well, meet Mr. Smith - Republican majority leader in the Legislature. Now listen to Bill Smith defend the plan. Meet ugly veneer. Bill Smith rises and states (roughly paraphrased below)
This is a plan whose time has come. A plan whose power is self-evident. It doesn’t harm the city’s town and provides record state aid. Lifts the Medicaid burden for property tax payers. We will have structural stability for the foreseeable future. We get to cut property taxes. City’s towns and villages receive Dollar for Dollar the same aid
And Mr Smith, how much do you want for that bridge? All I could think watching this is the Republicans are running out of lipstick and perfume for the the pig.
But listen for yourself.

Reread my first sentence. If this plan was soooo good why was it enacted the way it was?

Has anyone done an FOIL request to see what the TV commercials cost (air time and production) and who paid for them (more than likely US)…?
Hey, the video is private now!
