Carrie Andrews on the Intercept. It can’t be a community solution if the community is not involved
Listen to Carrie’s story of how a legislator is made aware of the Intercept proposal and special session. It is sickening. yes, sickening
Recall there was a special session of the Monroe County Legislature called where in 90 minutes the Republican majority rammed through a sales tax intercept. Listen to some of the legislators - Haney, Palumbo, O’Brien, and Bronson, now Andrews - speak against the plan.
Ms. Andrews gets the call that there might be a special session. No agenda. received a package at her home with the proposed bill. No opportunity to see it. Then she goes on about community involvement. How can there be community involvement when the community isn’t involved? She refers to to Paul Haney’s proposal for 2 extra days that was defeated by the Republican majority lockstep legislature.
But listen for yourself.

Our county legislature specifically the Republican majority should be ashamed of itself for passing such a measure without community involvement and what’s worse preventing it.
Ashamed.

Excellent work on all of this, Stlo7.
Now a few questions. Were there reporters from the D&C and other media present at this County Legislature meeting? If so, have they said anything about the lack of community involvement or the manner in which this was conducted? If they haven’t mentioned it, then I think calls to those specific reporters would be in order, specifically asking them why they haven’t mentioned the lack of community involvement and the manner in which this meeting was conducted.
In any case, I think it would be helpful to our cause if you sat down with as many members of the media as possible to show them these videos. Not just the D&C, but other newspapers, as well as television and radio journalists. We have to make these videos available to as wide an audience as possible. Writing letters to the editor may not produce as strong a reaction as showing the right people these videos.
Final question: if a Dem candidate asked to use one of your videos in a campaign ad, what would your reply be? If a reporter wanted to use one of your videos on the air, what would your reply be?
Oh … when I said “it would be helpful to our cause if you sat down with as many members of the media as possible”, I think I really meant that concerned citizens (like myself) should do this, I didn’t really mean to imply that only Stlo7 should be doing this.
