Excellent L.T.E. on F.A.I.R. tax intercept and Robach

A letter from today’s D&C:

Plan undercuts Robach’s promise

A March 23 article in this paper regarding the increased state aid for area school districts quoted state Sen. Joseph Robach, R-Greece, as saying “I’m going to make a pledge to every one of these (Rochester-area school) districts that you are going to get more money when we get done (with the budget), and you will. That’s what counts to me. That’s what I’m going to do.”

On Sept. 26, County Executive Maggie Brooks rammed through her plan to cut by 50 percent the revenue shared with our school districts, supposedly because the increased state aid will make up for the lost revenue to the districts. Given Sen. Robach’s March 23 pledge that districts will receive more state education aid, it is imperative he makes clear to the public whether he is in favor or opposed to the county executive’s budget plan.

A reader tells us:

If any readers feel so inclined, place a call to Robach’s office at (585) 225-3650 to see what he has to say about this. He will no doubt seek to punt such a controversial question, but it can’t hurt to ask.

But don’t you see? Brooks said the schools will be getting “record state aid.”

    No worries!

But don’t you understand? The state aid is meant to make improvements to our schools budgets, not just maintain them at their current levels.

In fact, its my understanding the Governor actually tried to prevent these types of shenanigans from happening, by putting language into the legislation to bar such actions at the city level. I guess, he didn’t realize there was a county executive out there willing to cheat the system, our schools, and our children.

I really shouldn’t limit this to Maggie though, the county legislature, along with their head honcho Steve Minarik deserve much of the credit.

Maggie votes to cut off funding for education, the Decider votes to cut off funding for healthcare. Twin siblings of different mothers.
