The Politics of divisiveness - Politics as practiced by Monroe County Republicans
Much has been said of the ramming through of the tax intercept by Maggie Brook’s Republican dominated Monroe County Lockstep Legislature. Well - see for yourself below. After having the Republican plan formally released a couple of hours before, an emergency meeting of the Monroe County Legislature was called to session.
Paul Haney opens the session by asking for a postponement of a few days to allow for community input, as well as, to allow the Democrats to study the proposal. He merely asks for a few days and would reconvene prior to the expiration of the opportunity to accept the Tax intercept.
The Republican party is having none of it. Within 2 minutes and 10 seconds of the opening of the legislature you can see where this was going. It was predetermined.
Looks unfair to me.
Note - the audio is untouched. You can see Haney, then the Roll Call vote. As for the video - I deleted the roll call footage and replaced it with a still pic of Wayne Zyra since the camera was wandering too much.

Just curious - does anyone know who paid for the TV ads of Maggie promoting the plan? I haven’t heard a “paid for by…” disclaimer on them and I haven’t seen one either, but maybe I’m missing it.
George Orwell paid for it…
They were paid for by the “Friends of Maggie Brooks” campaign committee. In other words, the ads were paid for with county taxpayer dollars which were funneled through county contracts with private corporations who then donated the money back to the county exec.
