More right-wing garbage on driver’s licenses
I don’t usually go in for titles like this, but I want to distinguish here between the idiots who are protesting the Spitzer driver’s license program and the many reasonable conservatives I converse with regularly. Here’s some embarrassing tripe from some of the clowns who “represent” us in Albany.
Local Republican members of the New York State Assembly spoke out against Governor Spitzer’s decision to stop requiring people to provide a social security number when they apply for driver’s licenses.
At a press conference held today in the Monroe County Building atrium, Assemblyman William Reilich, R-Greece, called the plan “a step backward†that would make New Yorkers vulnerable.
Assemblyman Stephen Hawley, R-Batavia, said “9/11 terrorists had 35 driver’s licenses. These licenses helped them carry out those attacks.â€
Mr. Hawley: THE HIJACKERS WERE HERE LEGALLY!!!!!!!! Could you at least think of something original? Pistol-packing Randy already made this “point” earlier.
Some Republicans may actually believe this foolishness. But I think that overall, it’s an attempt to reinvent the anti-black southern strategy with Latinos as the target this time.
Well, it won’t work. Blatantly racist tactics have worked for Republicans because African-Americans only make up 13 percent of the population. In another 15 years, Latino-Americans will make up something like 20 percent of the population. Is writing off 1/3 of the voting population to the other party really a good strategy?
Of course not. But Steve Minarik, Tom Tancredo, and the rest will be long gone by then. And the task of winning elections with 30 percent of the vote written off will fall to a new generation of dirty trickster right-wingers.
