Maggie Brooks and the lockstep legislature - stop pretending to care - it is transparent and unbecoming

Maggie Brooks must be feeling the pressure alright. She is going to have public forums to discuss her fiscal shell-game budget plan, at least according to the D&C Op-ed page. Then again, when the op-ed opens with this blinding flash of the obvious.
Brooks’ plan should have gotten more public input.
Then there was this little gem yesterday when she unloaded on Tom Tobin instead of actually addressing the issues of her Tax Intercept plan at the the D&C Editorial Board, which apparently she finally found time to visit.
I also heard, on either the Radio or TV, a response from Maggie Brooks directed at the School superintendents, asking, something to the effect of, “Where were you when this was being proposed?”- referring of course to the significant reduction in School Aid proposed by the Brooks administration.
So let me get this straight. School superintendents and Town Supervisors are being blamed for not voicing their opinions and opposition to this bogus plan? News to the Brooks administration.
There is this great local blog, that actually has video of a School board member and not one but two speeches by a town supervisor arguing against the Tax intercept. But you guys don’t read us. No matter those folks were AT YOUR COUNTY LEGISLATURE meetings. I don’t know if at other Legislature meetings, School Board members or Superintendents attended, but it is not like YOU tried to engage them, is it?
Then there was the joke of a special session being called, where Brooks’ plan was released and the legislators only had a few hours to review the legislation before voting. Calls for more time by Democrats were ignored by the Republicans, the very next day - polished advertisements by the administration were released touting the supposed benefits. MAGGIE BROOKS AND THE LOCKSTEP LEGISLATURE knew this was coming and didn’t care.
Oh, Re the public forums? Yo, Maggie, and EVERY COUNTY LEGISLATOR that voted for this travesity, WHERE were the public forums BEFORE the vote?
The Democratic challengers to the Republican incumbents who voted for this should be having a field day.
I’m sure that MCDC will be generating a targeted lit mailing asking why the Republican majority voted for this. Specifically why <fill in incumbent legislator XXXX> voted for raising your taxes. If I were running for one of those seats I’d be asking for that lit.
Because I’ll be asking why my taxes are going up 20%
Hey Joe are you listening?
Hope so.

The school districts are planning to sue the county. Spitzer isn’t going along with this. I’m thinking this might ultimately backfire on the Repbulicans. Hoping that it’s not just wishful thinking on my part.
School superintendents don’t expect to have half of their state funding taken away from them in a power grab by a county executive. And furthermore, they are not required to speak out against any particular plan that was not made public until the meeting in which the plan was voted on. In fact, it is ridiculous to expect anyone to speak out against the plan prior to the meeting in which it was voted on, since no one knew the details of the plan.
God, these Rethuglicans are evil. Attack attack attack lie lie lie mislead mislead mislead. They even made me feel sorry for Tom Tobin, that’s how nasty they are.
Great Post !! Keep banging the drum!! There’s still a hole in the bucket. Maggie just assured herself of a Democratic take-over of the county leg. Wish I was running.
Did anyone ever dig up Lyin’ Maggie’s real name?
ladkiddo - Democratic takeover? Not likely. The Dems might pick up a seat or two, but not enough to take over.
What makes you say that?
